But the moment I apply any steering compensation, it's gone. When I go over bumps, I hold on for dear life.

Can this be attributed to a bad Compression Rod?
The problem with the shaking that can be eliminated by steering left or right was NOT a problem with the compression rod. Inner and outer tie-rods were blown. Inner rod went due to a torn boot and water getting in there, and I believe the outer went from all the shaking. Replaced both, got an alignment, and the car is no longer displaying those symptoms.

I am still getting clunking, but I'll live with it for now.

Does anyone know (sorry if it's buried in this thread which I'm sure it is, but I don't have time to go through all of it), how to check and see if it's your compression rod causing the noise? I have the same issue with my driver side front suspension. Serious rattling noise when going over bumps on the road. I have SPL A arms and before my caster jam nut had come loose. I tightened the hell out of that so I'm hoping it hasn't come loose again.... Since I'll be getting back under there again this weekend, I'd like to know how I can diagnose the compression and/or tie rods.

Hokay, so...

...I have the same compression rod issue on the front driver side. I will be lowering my car w/ Z/coupe springs in a few weeks and want to get the compression rod fixed beforehand so it doesn't get worse and the dealer can't blame it on my springs.

My car has 65k miles and has an extended warranty through Nissan up to 100k. My question is, do you all think that Nissan will fix this under my extended warranty per the TSB? I understand that the answer is subjective. In general, are TSB fixes covered under warranty?

In my experience TSBs have always been handled under warranty, but only by an Infiniti dealer – Nissan dealers are not able to bill the cost to manufacturer… I’ve tried having Nissan do warranty work and they will not because they can’t get reimbursed.

This is based on my normal manufacturers warranty… did you get some ancillary warranty policy by purchasing used from Nissan or something? If you have a Nissan warranty, I’m not sure how a TSB item would be submitted, but it still should be covered as a warranty item.

Yeah, I bought my car from a Nissan dealer and also purchased their extended warranty. I will be calling to set up an apt in the next few days to get this fixed as well as some other minor things, hopefully all under warranty so I'll update when I get the verdict.

Oh my god....I've been reading this thread from page one and feel entirely lost actually read all 14 pages. I too am experienceing the creaking (errrt errrrt eeerrrttt) from moving over uneven surfaces, i.e. pulling into my drive way etc.. for this issue I believe from this thread that I should check the bushing and if it appears to be damaged I should just have bushings replaced. Right or wrong? Please advise, I hate this creaking noise. Also it sounds as if it's fairly easy to do the work my self. Is there any particular steps I should be aware of or a DIY on this?

Had my compression rods replaced under warranty today at 35K miles. Car rides totally different now. I am in love with it even more now!

Compression Rods

Took my 06 G35 to my favorite detailer to get a scratch buffed out.
When they finished they pointed something out to me: if the car was backing up slowly and the brakes were applied the wheel was rocking back and forth in the well. Same thing happened going forward.

Prior to this time I had never noticed any problems with front suspension but I took my car to the deal (thankfully, still under warranty) and told him what the detailers had told/showed me.

At the dealer, of course I could not reproduce the problem but I left the car there anyway.

Long story short... the problem still can't be reproduced and ... even though I never mentioned it to the dealer, guess what parts they wound up replacing?

That's right, the compression rods.

Here's the part numbers off of my ticket. Sorry no price... the repair was under warranty and the only thing on my ticket is *****

ROD COMPL - COMPRESSIO - 54468 - AC71F
COMPRESSION ROD, FRO - 54469 - AC71F

I saw some posts flying around about this... anyone know if these are the most recent version of this part?

Do these new parts fix the problem completely? Or will i need to worry about it happening again in 30K miles

I'm looking to have the bushings replaced and was wondering if someone could let me know whats involved.

I understand you need a press to get the bushings in, I plan on taking it to a shop to have it pressed but i'd like to do the compression rod removal (both front sides) myself.

Can someone let me know what's involved in removing the compression rod?

Thanks.

Look in the FSM for removal and the TSB can be found online which shows the bushing installation.
