Question Compression Rod Replacement

So I hit 63K miles on my coupe and now the infamous compression rod squeak has come out. So I'm going to order part #54468-CD084, and replace it myself. There are a lot of threads about the dealer replacing it, but I am wondering how to do it yourself. The spindle side seems easy enough to take off, just take off the pin and unscrew. But the other side doesn't seems as straight forward, and I wanted to make sure I'm don't unscrew something that will make everything fall apart.

I looked in the service manual, if I take off the nut circled in red, will the rod just pop out? Is there a bolt on the other side? Thanks.

You need to read this thread to find the new part numbers: https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-suspension/166199-g35-compression-rods-total-crap.html

Also, the service manual has a section on how to take the compression rod off and how to install so look for that.

Thanks for the link erdog. It was helpful to identify the redesigned part number. I just took mine in to the most local dealer (San Jose) last week for the creak (@ 45k, but the creak has been there since ~25k). They installed both sides with the new part numbers. It's nice to know they are doing it right!

I have some compression rods on their way. Thanks Jason.

Do I need to lube up the bushings with silicone grease or just leave them alone? The ball joint should just pop out of the steering knuckle?

I am one month past my warranty with 24,000 miles on my 04 Coupe. The compression rods are screaming and I am assuming that I will not be covered under warranty as I have not complained about it before.

you can always go in and try... but they will try to hit you for a $100 diagnostic fee or something like that...

My diagnosis will be driving with the service tech over a speed bump so that he can hear for himself, loud and clearly, the creaking. I need to make sure it is not a rainy day which masks the noise. I usually talk to the service manager before I check my car in to see if it will be a go for replacement. In the past he has given me the benefit of the doubt for everything. This time, of course, there is no warranty in effect.

do you need to get an alignment after replacing the compression rod?
I just had mine changed by the dealer.

Its recommended but I didn't do it after I swapped mine out. I don't think changing it will affect the alignment by much if any.

When I had my right side done under the TSB for the drift to the right , I was told it was not necessary to have an alignment. Considering that the compression rods have an affect on caster, but caster cannot be adjusted in our G35s , I wonder about the alignment question.
