That's the old radiator brace problem which was long-ago fixed in production vehicles. This is NOT the fix for the compression rod creaking!!!

I know ya gonna hate me for this, but a service manager told me this. He has been working at infiniti for quite some time and seemed like a good guy. He was quite confident with this information and told me I can call up later and check if was released.

Sorry for forgetting that disclaimor

Nah, no hating here. There are just lots of sources out there! A service manager should be a good one, but sometimes even they get things confused, or want to give a customer an impression that they have some idea of what's going on (when they really don't!).

If you get any chance to followup with him, that would br great!

I had the same problem the entire time I owned my 01 Maxima which was never fixed despite numerous parts being replaced. The TSB that finally came out after I sold it said it was some problem with a bad weld.

There has been this strange scraping noise occurring as I first start to accelerate. Haven't had time to check it out yet. My car is only 6 months old.

Sorry guys, I'm new to this forum.

probably your ABS...check the owners manual, it explains it in there.

Ok, sorry to dredge up this old thread, but does anyone have a fix for this issue? I'd like to go to my dealer armed with all the facts... Thanks!

my car does the same too... not really noticable to anyone other than me...

If it really is a faulty compression rod is there a TSB?

Ninja EDIT:

my car is also a 2003.5 6MT

it only does make the noise when I hit a dip or drive way

so, it might be compression rod..is there any other possibilities..

I recently had a 04 G35 loaner (auto, 13.5 K miles) which I kept for 2 days; same front end noise with my 03.5 6speed sedan; I cannot be worn/defective compression rods for so many cars including 05 and 06. It is a design issue and now with the redesigned 07 coming out I don’t think that Infiniti would do anything to fix it. I hope it does not get worse over time. It is strange that the coupes, 350Z and FX do not seem to be making this noise; M owners have complaint about it well.

Does anybody know if aftermarket compression rods have fixed it?

I have experienced this creaking noise on my own 2004 as well as several loaner sedans. My car's problem was definitely fixed when they replaced the compression rods on my car. Unfortunately, that was in Dec 2005 and the problem returned this month (Apr 2006).

BTW, the rods themselves are not the problem. They are beafy pieces of aluminum! The noise is most likely coming from the bushing ends, but these parts are not separately replaceable.
