My Suspension Case Study
I currently have Tein S-Tech for the 350Z with springs rates of 385 f and 402 r and Tokico D-Spec for the 350Z on my 2003 6mt Coupe. I love this setup! However, I just added a Vortec, which adds about 80 lbs on my extreme front end. A once perfect 1.2" drop up front is now unbearable. I scrape my front end bottom quite a bit. I can't even get up on most drive on ramps. They have to back my car in just to do an oil change. I know it's just a matter of time before I do some damage. I have a fuel pump, FMU and tee'd fuel lines up front I'm worried about damaging. I need to raise my car about .5 to .75" up front, but keep a similar spring rate. The only choice I see is the longer Tein H-Tech for the 350Z, which will give me about a .75 to 1" drop up front, but the front spring rate is only 358. This results in a roll stiffness to front from +7% with the S-Tech to -2% with the H-Techs (+14%-(+16%)=-2%). I'm not sure if a negative roll stiffness is a good thing or not.
Please analyze my case and offer your input. I'm not totally against changing out the whole system for a coilover or different springs, but of course I want to go with the least expensive option. Did I mention that I love my D-specs?
