Post up your 1/4 mile times
No No, I didn't mean to sound hostile. I just know that people are always quick to call BS. So I was just stating that i'm ready for them...LOL. I was very happy with these times so far. I was trying for a 13.9. But I will get there.
went to LACR tonight and ended up with a best time of 14.760. Kind of disappointed as I was wanting to break into 14.6XX but maybe next time. My 60ft was horrible(as always with LACR) but yeah...I did longer burnouts and finally got my first 2.2xx 60ft. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. haha. Oh and 14.760 corrected is a 14.317 so not too bad.

Very good times... glad to see some '05s hitting the track. I want to take mine soon, now that I am close to 5000 miles.
Also, good on you for running stock with the spare, etc. and not taking a bunch of stuff out. Not that it's wrong, but I will go to the track to get a basic idea of how my car can perform in the real world. My car carries all that stuff with it, so I don't plan to take it out when I drag it.
If I really wanted to drag for the best possible times... well... I'm in the wrong car.
As a side note, it seems people expect the 05's to accelerate much faster than previous models due to "all the extra power". Let's not forget that the 05's also have more weight to carry around, unfortunately.

trebien,
How much more do the 05's weigh? With 10 lbs/trq more and 38 HP more they would have to weigh 380lbs more to offset all that power...
Ironically...it's often that the track has less grip than the street depending on what track you race at and also, depending on the slope of the track it could be worse than the street...so, stripping your car of easy to strip stuff is not a big deal...and with road side assistance who's to stop anyone from driving around without floormats, all that trunk padding, a jack and a spare right?

That is, according to official published numbers. Who knows what the reality is.
Anyway, point is... the 2005 has more weight too overcome. It's not like they dropped an engine with 38 more HP in a car that weighs the same as the older models. But people are expecting acceleration as if they did... and when dissappointed, making comments like "No way that's making 38 more HP".

I know if I had a 6 spd I would be running 13.8-13.9 right now and with a real world 23 more horsies my 14.00 would be a 13.7-13.8 provided I launched correctly.
All in all I am less excited about the new M45s after seeing these really positive results from barely broken in 05 G35s riding on dubs for the most part.

(hey, it works for the corvettes, right?)
That's the problem I'm having. I tried to launch at 1500 rpm's and about bogged out. 2000-2300 spins tires bad. I need to try and launch around 1800 rpm's, maybe that will get me my 13.9.

I have found that I run better times WITH my spare IN. I'm guessing it's because of the weight distribution issues with the car. It's already heavier up front and all removing weight from the rear does is make you lose more traction...maybe take the floormats out and put them in the trunk!

The 298hp 05 trades low and midrange power for higher rpm power. Not until around 6000rpms does the 298hp motor actually start making power than the previous VQs and it actually makes less power below 5000rpms than the previous VQ. In gears 1, 2, and 3, you speed very little time accelerating above 6000rpms in these gears because they wrap out so quickly. Now if the 298hp motor gained 38hp across the board, I'd be inclined to agree that the car should be significantly quicker than the one it replaced however when you trade midrange power for high rpm power, you end up with a potentially slower car from 0-70mph and one that will pull better that the top of 4th and 5th. Power under the curve means everything.
Capitol Raceway is also a pretty quick track, especially in cooler air in the Spring thanks to high baropressures and it's decently low elevation (300'). The same goes for E-Town and other sea level and near coastal tracks in the Northeast. Now if he told us the exact day he ran at the track, I could calculate the DA and that would reveal if his 05 is really making good power or if he was running in some decent air. Both you and I know that good conditions can mean the difference between running a .4 seconds and 3mph faster/slower with no changes to the car.
We'll have to wait and see what the other 05s are doing. I know of two 05s 6MTs in FL that are only getting 96-97mph traps.

The exact day I ran that particular time was last Friday evening. After 5:30. Temp was low 60's to high 50's. I think the cold air had a lot to do with the tires not hooking up. You were saying that the engine has different powwer curves....I found after racing a few Z's that I was beating them off the line and by the end of third gear I was clearly ahead by at least one car lengh. So I don't think we sacraficed much power at all in the first 3 gears, because at the track you just hit 4th at the end of your run.

where are gas tanks are in the back...maybe we can still gut the cars but keep at least 1/2 a tank in there...I have noticed no differene b/t 1/2 a tanks and 1/8 of a tanks runs.
