04 G35 6 spd tranny fluid

04 G35 6 spd.
I tried to use the Service manual in the FAQ/DIY section, but the Manual Transmission segment of it does not work, ironic....

This is what it says in the owners manual :

"Genuine Nissan tranny fluid HQ multi 75w85 OR API Gl-4 Viscosity 75w-85 or 75w90"

Is it ok to run a Mobil 1 Synthetic 75w-90 gear oil. It says on the back "Meet and exceeds API GL-5."

Is this what the tranny calls for? Owners manual says nothing about Syncromesh or ATF.... hmmmmm

Hopefully someone can help
Thanks

I'm a big fan of aftermarket fluids everywhere, but in my tranny I just ponied up and bought the right stuff from the dealership. These cars are known for tranny problems being more common than in other cars.... so you probably don't wan't to risk it with a weird fluid. The recommended viscocity is a very strange one anyways, and you won't find it anywhere in any other oil manufacturer. You can mix 2 different weights together though to get close to the OEM recommended 75/85, but it's still just easier to spend a little extra and go with the dealer stuff.

You might get it a few bucks cheaper if you go to Nissan and buy the Manual Tranny fluid for a 350Z... they use the same transmission as us.

A 50/50 mix of Redline MTL and MT90 (GL4) is going in when I have time.

Redline Mt90 should be the best, going to put it in when I have time. Anyone know how hard it is to change out the gearbox oil??

It's cake. Just need to be able to get the car up high enough so that you can get under it and also have it be somewhat on a level plane so that you can accurately refill it until the fluid drains out of the fill hole(which would not be as accurately done if the car was on a huge incline such as it would be with only one end of the car up on ramps).

My driveway is on a fairly decent hill, so I just drove my car up on ramps where the ramps were facing down the hill, that way when I drove up on the ramps, my car was basically parallel to flat ground.
