DIY 03 G35 Coupe 5AT to 07 G35S 5AT differential swap

open diff gear ratio?
I just bought an 03 g35 sedan 5AT. I've learned that it has the 3.3 open diff. Do they sell a lower gear ratio for the open differentials? Preferrably a 4.08 ratio? Or would I have to change my whole diff case out for the LSD case to do a ring and pinion upgrade. Please someone help because this 3.3 ratio is a turtle from a hole shot

well I know how to do all of that myself I work for a shop and I have a mustang as a racecar which I built myself from ground up, so the labor is the easy part, I was just curious as to where I can find ring and pinion for my open diff without swapping the entire pumpkin. I really appreciate all the help.

differentials found here!
Ok guys I don't work for this place...I'm just another guy with a G35 (03 auto w/08 3.7vlsd swap) so I'm posting this again to help everyone else out. My diff which is technically called the "carrier assembly" was only $450 shipped...Yours might be a little more or less...just check the site!
And if you do get a newer diff you might have to switch out your oil seal....this is the metal disc at the bottom of the flange.... depending on what year you got. Also, somebody asked about this....I personally lifted the car and placed it on jack stands.....the diff assembly weighs about 90lbs though so it's a B***H to install under that car height but possible. Try to borrow an impact wrench if possible. That was the only way I was able to remove the pinion nut. There are other tips in this thread. I know cuz I asked a LOT of questions....So thanks to everyone who helped me out!!!!

Now if I could just find the time to tackle this.

big jack
yeah that's what I had to do....I also learned in the process that the floor jacks with the lifting plate that's about 2" wide is useless in the carrier lifting process...i ended up having to roll in on my creeper head first and then use every muscle I had to push the rear end of the diff up first to get that long rear bolt in...from there I managed to push it back and up so I could get the 2 long bolts back in (one each side through the bushing area). From there the rest was easy enough.....My tip on switching the oil seals beneath the flange....stick a very thin screw driver between the plate and the diff flange....then just tap and work your way around until it comes off...have to do this for both diffs to complete the switch....I also had to slightly grind the old flange in-order for the new oil seal to fit....you will see what I mean....it just kinda has a few slightly raised areas which kept on the old oil seal

I just picked up my 08 3.7/VLSD diff for $350 shipped. The site lists a couple are available on east and west coast.
The site is car-parts.com search: 08 G35 Sedan
Part: Carrier (see differential)
Location: Northeast, pacific or where ever you like in the drop down.
Your zipcode
Next page pick either AT or MT locking. There are more AT than MT diffs.
Question does the G37 vert come with 3.9 gears stock? I searched for a G37 diff and it had the vert with 3.9 gears.
I'll post a review after I install mine with a aluminum driveshaft.
Good luck with your search.

I'm glad too because a 3.7FD should really give my G35 more "punch" , unfortunately there is too much snow here for a test drive right now
I did not disassemble anything. I've simply cut the pinion shaft with an angle grinder and a zip disc. Actually the 03 flange and nut were installed during the cut to prevent any metal bits from going into the diff.

I have an 04 G35 coupe AT. It has the 3.3 FD. I'm going to buy a 3.69 (Entire Pumpkin) My question is does it matter if I buy the 3.69 MT or AT? Will one be a direct swap, or less work than the other? I want to order this so bad, but just need to clear up this question. Does it matter if one has VLSD and the Other doesn't? Thanks

Please read the OP boss. he used a 5AT 07 g35s differential...the exact yr and model you're asking about. It has the 3.7 FD. and both automatic as well as manual differentials will fit, in the case of that particular model, it had to be modified as shown in the OP to fit. In summary, yes it will fit but it may take a LITTLE bit of work to do it.
