4.08 Gears

I know there are quite a few threads on the topic, but I wasn't really able to confirm a few things. Would greatly appreciate if you gurus could throw out your 2 cents. Neverbonestock (myg37) claimed only a 200 rpm difference between his stock 3.69 gears and his 4.083 gears. Truth to this comment? I was told it was more like 600 rpms. Also, has anyone swapped out completely, rear diffs? I'm in the process of trying to swap rear diffs between my buddy's 08 Z (HR) and mine. His 4.08 gears have about 7k on them. Install was done right - no whining, etc.. I know the abs sensor harnesses are different (planning to swap), but any clue on if it'll bolt directly? I've read around that a G35 and 350Z are a direct swap, as are G35 to G37s.

By the way, can someone confirm that the vlsds in the Z are "better" than the ones in the G's? G37 sedan in particular?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Same diff same vlsd in G35 vs 350z direct bolt in exact same vlsd i have ne er heard if they changed anything for theg37 besides the ratio. 200 rpm difference seems low but there should be calculations to figure it out try googling it and see.

3.69 to 4.08 wouldn't change more than 200-300 rpm

3.3 to 3.69 would be about the same

3.3 to 4.08 would probably change 450-500

only the 2007-2008 G35 Sedan was 3.69 stock, along with all 6MT G37s - these pumpkins can bolt up but need modification. Some people that have swapped pumpkins have lost Cruise Control, some have cruise only able to engage up to a specific speed (like me ~85mph), and some have had issues with speedometer being off after the swap.

There seems to be a correlation - but you should read up on in in the Drivetrain section

ABS sensor on each side - no real difference

If you are swapping from a 2nd Gen G35 sedan (3.69) then the input shafts need to be swapped, thats about it.

G37 pumpkins may be more of a direct fit - minus the ABS sensors which just have a different connector. This is probably (also) the reason that the G37 pumpkins that have been swapped to the G35 have had issues with the speedometer.

i bet you will. Give it a nice test on the freeway. Make sure you have another car to verify speedometer is accurate.

Test your cruise control as well.

Bah, we had to off put the install
I apologize for all the questions tooth, but believe me...your input is greatly appreciated! Anyway clue on how I should go about modifying the abs sensors? The friend I'm working with has a solution, but in case it doesn't work...I'd like to be able to "pretend" like I know as much as he does...lol

just use the stock ABS sensors. Don't use the G37 sensors.

The 08 Z has ABS sensors that merge off the pumpkin, into ONE. My G37 Sedan has two off the pumpkin that go into independent ports all together. Using the OE ABS sensors off the Z's pumpkin means one isn't receive input.

Well...I guess that might work? Unless the computer doesn't fix itself (doesn't see 2 inputs from one ABS sensor)... it might throw a code because the other isn't receiving a signal.

I don't really know what I'm talking about. Can you tell? lol thanks for your input man!
