To tighten/losen tention on the belt would anyone recomend this method below?

1. What if you where to turn the ignition so the belts operate.
2. Monitor for squels sounds and if there are squeals just get underneath and adjust the tension (losen the tension).
3. If the battery lights come on do the same (tighten this time)

When I do my belts I will try this method. Also is it better to do this in winter or summer. In summer time th belt will be expanded and in winter the belt will be contracted. I guess if you do this right it shouldn't matter what the season is.

 

I would NOT do this at home on jack stands. If something happens and the car comes down and runs your *** over then...i guess you will be hurt. I would only do this if you have a lift.

My suggested resolution to this... get a set of ramps to drive the car up on. Best investment for doing any work on the car that requires only one side to be jacked up.

Anyway good DIY, I'm only at 1000 miles, but this will def. come in handy when I hit 60k

 

just get wheel chocks and put the stands on the subframe. no need for a lift (unless it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling )

 

prefect timing for this to get ressurected.

 

help, tightened the tension and my belts squeled like a ****. Right now the belts are on pretty loose and there is no squeling. I'm worried there's not enough tension though now. Anyway to eyeball it less buying a 50 dollar tensioner guage?

 

btw everyone shoudl check their ac belt. My steering belt was fine but the ac belt was riddled with cracks. I'm a 05 with only 37k too

 

I replaced my belts with belts from Autozone. The procedure was right on the money. The most time consuming part was taking on and off the damn cover on the bottom. It took me about one hour total time. Everyone should do this themselves. Just need a good jack to get the car off the ground. Be careful not to use a power tool to put the screws for the bottom cover back on. I cracked the cover near one of the screw holes by tightening the screw too much

 

If your scared of doing this at home with jackstands, what will you do yourself?
If you put the stands in the correct places, nothing is going to happen. Unless your stands buckle.

 

@ 60k just change my belts. Video coming up to supplement this thread.

DIY Video: Drive Belts Replacement Procedure

 

Hello,

I changed my belts as well on my 04 G35. However, they make a 5 second sqeeking noise when the car starts. The noise occures once in a while when the car stars and not all the time. I am not sure if I tightent the pully too tight. Has anyone else experienced this problem? After I heard the noise I got under the car again and tried to adjust the tensioner so it is not too tight. The noise is still there.
