Hey, sorry to bring up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one to ask a few questions.
Anyways, I'm going to try this DIY fix this weekend, but I was wondering if someone could explain to me a bit clearer how these nail-on glides or coins help with easier driving with the g. Especially with hills, how does this fix make driving up hills easier? I don't get it when you say "you don't have to let the clutch up half-way to get the car moving". What's going on there? Thanks, any help is appreciated.

It will help when going up hill, because as soon as u start coming up off the clutch pedal then clutch will start grabbing earlier than normal. The clutch will grab and pull the car sooner than later when letting off the clutch pedal. Just do it worth it for everyone... You will love it.

I use to be able to adjust my clutch the same with my older G20, it was a non hydraulic cable clutch setup.

You will get the hang in no time... You best bet and when I was taught to drive stick, it was on a hill. Go out when you are free, and drive up and down a hill. Of course on a hill that is not busy with traffic. Trust me once u get the hang, u will start having fun with all hills... except during ice and snow.

PS: A friend told me when I started driving stick to let go of the clutch on the hill and as soon as u see the tach start to drop rpm's to start giving the car gas. Might work for u.

You will also notice in due time, your best and funniest time of ur life driving was when u was learning to drive stick... I miss those embarrassing nervousness days.

But what if there is traffic on a hill...then I'll just be rocking my car..no
I mean the most annoying thing I'm experiencing right now is when there's traffic that creeps slowly, then stops, then creeps again. It's very easy to stall in this situation especially when I only have to move 3-4 feet up the hill every 30 secs, being careful not to rear end the guy in front and fall back far enough to hit the tailgater at the back

But aside from that, I just hope this fix makes it more comfortable on hills and traffic, and yea I will remember these embarrassing and nerve racking days

clutch replacement

I have an '06 with only 50k and my clutch is going out. I was just going to buy a stock one to replace it, but I've been reading the stock clutches are junk. Any suggestions???

I know this is diy mod has been around for a while... but I finally got around to doing this tonight, and have to say it is awesome! A must if you have a 6MT. It's a completely different driving experience.

Just bought a used coupe last month.
I used to hate driving, until I ran across this thread.
Thank you for the awesome write up.

Would this help on my 07 coupe as well, or is it just for the 05s and older?

The fix worked for me

I just bought an 06 6mt sedan. I thought, until I read this
thread, that I had forgotten how to drive a stick. The last manual tranny I had was 25 years ago. I used the indoor/outdoor tape with all else as described. The fix works great . My clutch picks up just off the floor as it should. The disengagement is clean with no gear grinding.
I no longer have to search for the engagement point. If you are familiar with Knoxville Tn. and it's hills (we will make you stop on a 12% grade) you will know how important this can be.

I've read about this mod for a while but just never got around to doing it. Went out and got the 29mm glides and some double sided tape.

I opted to glue two of the glides together and then put a single piece of double-sided tape on it for the bottom piece.

As for the top piece, I also used glue to hold it in place as double-sided tape by itself was not strong enough mainly due to the fact that its a curved surface versus something flat.

I took it out for a spin and it drives like a normal MT car should. Minimal pedal travel. I'm able to shift quicker now. Call me crazy but I miss the long pedal travel, makes me know I'm driving a G, LOL.

Can't use the "hard to drive" excuse anymore with the girlfriend, unless I don't tell her about the mod...

Totally agree with the other members, a must do mod for 6MT owners.

Total cost was like $7, enough to do this mod 3-4 times.

Thumbs up
