Finally got around to doing this little DIY mod yesterday. 5 nickels & 2 pennies on the bottom and 5 nickels & 1 penny on top. Used an entire tube of superglue just to be safe, and 2 trimmed pieces of thin double sided automotive trim tape on each stack. Feels great!

Big props to Yumi aka ON for making the clear/detailed writeup for all of us "brave" enough to do it. I don't really fault the D-Wolf people for trying to make a buck. However, they were pretty shady too, not posting any pics or description at all. "Hey, just trust me and send me your money." They prob told all their buyers not to post any pics or description either. Pretty gay.

Either way, let's not rehash this. That already happened in another thread long ago. Oh well, I guess this means more bumps for this thread, so more people will do it.

Just did this on my '08 last night.
IDK if it's been discussed further up this thread, but the 2dn gen setup is a little different.
The principal function however, is the same.

I'm just on R&D trial spacers for now, ....works great.
I'll be working out a more mechanical sound method soon.
I'll post up the results & pics when I'm done.

We've had our '08 6MT since 9/29 (500+ miles) and both the wife and I simply hated the feel. Opted to do the coin-based stop and first tried the 7 and 3 nickel approach and did not like it. Ended going with a 9mm and 10mm stack.

IDK if there's room on 1st gen, to do the mod the way I did on my '08 (2nd gen is a little different)...
FWIW Here's a DIY that gives you mechanical adjustable stop points. (no glue or D.Sided tape)

So does this prematurely wear on the clutch? I wouldn't think so, but others have brought up the idea.

just did to my g and feels great
i did it with the nickels and tape but was woried that it might fall off
so went to home depot and bought the plastic sliders and did it that way but i made a notch across the width of the plastic peice with a heated razor blade and gloves on (be careful)
after the notch was carved out across the width of both plastic peices i put it on with the double sided tape and used thin fishing line and wrapped it around a few times and tied it down so if the tape failes it will be held on with the fishing line
after that i put a peice of felt tape on top so the fishing line is not exposed and to give it a softer feel

make sure the notch is big enough so the fishing line is not exposed

hope this helps

quick question about the mod

if the combination of coins (or whatever else your using) is correct can't you get unwanted pressure on the switch?

for example,
say you put too many coins on the switch area OR even too few coins on the bottom area then whenever you pushed the clutch down, the coins on the top(switch area) would contact before the bottom stop was engaged.

do anyone see what I am trying to say?

it seems like there is potential to damage the switch.
is there a safe way to make sure this doesn't happen other then just saying put a longer stack at the bottom and a shorter stack at the switch contact area?

thanks

If you are that concerned about it, just start with a small stack. Keep adding coins until you can engage the starter.

i just did it with the way shown in the OP but instead of 2 layers of tape on the thicker one i put a piece of chair foam on the end of the white piece so that way it had more give. it feels great best mod i have ever done so far!

I was thinking of removing the stock white plastic piece and running a bolt through that hole and have a nut on each side of the L bracket holding the bolt in place. I know this is going to be putting pressure on the face of that switch but if your not standing on the clutch pedal then it shouldnt hurt it. Might could even put some felt on the bolt head to keep the metal from rubbing the switch too much.

was about to go and spend a grand on purchasing a new clutch and flywheel just b/c of the difficulty in driving the stock one, BUT after finding this I will give it a try and hopefully feel as happy as everyone else posting here
