Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
OK - just so ya know - those of us with mods are needing the reset and those of us with AT's are needing it as well. My Infiniti rep wih 19 years at nissan said it worked and MY *** tells me it works. I may not have some handy dandy dyno charts to prove it but hunrdeds of smart people in 3 forums are not making this all up. If you have a 5at with over 2000 miles on it - try it...if you don't believe it still then you are flooring it every time or you aren't in tune with your automobile.
Those of us with Injen Intakes will bet money on the ecu reset since we don't hear the growl unless the ECU lets us.

You guys that say the ECU reset is a placebo are full of ****. I have owned my car for over a year and have been resetting the ECU for the past 8 months and I can tell the difference. Maybe you guys don't quite have the feel and sense of your cars down yet, or have 6MTs (which don't really benefit from this), but this does work. I did not really feel the mods I had until I reset the ECU. It does work. My Infinity service manager recommends this whenever someone complains about lacking performance.
Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
dude if I paid 40 k for a car that has to be unplugged and plugged back in 12 hours later to regain performance i'd take it back. this is the most ludicrious crap i've heard in forever.

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
Yeah, it is pretty lame I agree, but that is just not a good enough reason for me to take it back. This car is just too wonderful. Just wait and some egghead will come up with a flash (cheaper than Technosquares) that will take this annoying algorythm out. Until then, I will keep reseting the ECU. BTW, there are other reset methods out there that don't require 12 hours.
How do you like your Tein Basic Coilovers? Know of a good vendor that sells them at a reasonable price?

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
yeah the pedal work! saves u 11 hours n 59 min like someone said! haha
i did reset the ECU using that method cuz i dont have 12 hours to let my car sit in the garage... n yeah it felt more responsive! responsive meaning... felt like the way it drove 1st time i drove my car...

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
All I have ever seen is qualitative/subjective data, and almost all of that is from the A/T folks. If there is a benefit, perhaps it's limited to the A/T shift timing or something similar.
In any case, I would like to see quantitative data on this. Without it, all we are left with are opinions.

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
Your opinion would be: Damn this thing is louder now. Why - more fuel...why - original program was for more fuel but the injen brought extra air into the mix so fuel was retarded a bit which eventually quited the intake. At reset it assumes the stock setup and goes back to more fuel + the add'l air and viola. Do you think people will spend 800 bucks for an ECU flash that is not variable so the mods will work...to find out the ecu thing was crap. Talk to technosquare - they have a map of the ecu and will tell you like i will that you are wrong...
Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
I think Shader's more concerned with the 6MT. I agree that I don't know what major changes will occur with *your* car (6MT), however my service manager told me that the ECU reset, in theory, is perfectly viable. Since we're dealing with something very concrete (the programming in the ECU, its inputs, and what it adapts), I don't see why reality would diverge from theory.

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
Well, I've been doing a lot of reading and have done only a few posts/replies. I tried the paddle method to reset the ecu for the first time after 3k. And I must say although it wasn't a huge difference after the reset, it was noticable. I felt the car is lighter (a tiny bit more responsive in acceleration) and shifts smoother from 2nd to 3rd.
NOTE: I have not had any mod to this car yet. Waiting for the 7 wire grounding kit to see if there is any difference in gear shifting and when the car is idling.

Re: Having to reset the ECU is LAME!
As I said, perhaps the A/T benefits more than the 6MT; perhaps the 6MT doesn't benefit at all. My point is that I have seen no quantitative data at all. If the exhaust note is louder at the same RPM, that would be easy to measure with a dB meter from Radio Shack. If it's faster, you could easily measure it with enough runs using an accelerometer before and after the reset.
All I'm saying is that I don't know if it works or not, and all the qualititative data I've read is so far not very convincing.
