I took my wheels off and taking it to the dealer in the morning. Tell them they are keeping it.
you realize there is a BREAK IN period with all new motors.....it will eat oil in the beginning no matter what.

It would be useful to have people post on a separate poll if they are NOT having an oil consumption problem to get an idea of what percentages of cars are affected.

I just purchased my 05 6mt and noticed the large oil consumption before my first oil change. I took it in to Tustin Infiniti last night and they will know in a 1000 miles what I already know now.

Hey bro.. If u JUST purchased it car and live within 50 miles from riverside Infiniti.. I would stop ur test at Tustin, and restart it over there.. Believe me.. U won't b disappointed.. I bought my car brand new from Tustin Infiniti and I have had horrible service.. Oh yea. If u plan on doin any type of mods, they are definitly not mod friendly. I got grief from them with only a stillen exhaust..

Btw. I took my 2005 6mt to riverside Infiniti for the first time a couple months ago and got nothing but SUPERiOR cust svc.

I got a new motor yesterday..!!!!!!
Parts are sometimes 50% off compared to Tustin too..

Had long block replaced at Riverside Infiniti a couple of weeks ago. Now 200 miles into the break-in period. So far, so good. Runs smoothly. Haven't bothered to check the oil level yet. I'm almost afraid to after going through so much hassle with v1.
Oil consumption test performed at Riverside Infiniti showed oil level down -48mm after 900 miles. That's 8X the amount of oil loss considered unacceptable (according to the TSB). Service at RI was fantastic!

After my 2nd 1,000 mile test. Where at the time I was burning 4+qts every 3,000 on my 05 6mt. I was approved for a new motor today. Dropped her off this morning. I was told it should be done by the end of the week. Keep ya posted...

I felt the same way. I fought with Corporate Infiniti USA for a month, while the whole "oil consumption test" was going on. I tried to explain to them what good is it going to do by putting the same problematic engine into the car. Then I tried to explain to them that I would be happy taking the VQ35HR engine as a replacement for the VQ35DE, but they said they would have to change out ot much stuff, including ecu and other things. I replied, are you going to start the warranty over on the engine for me then. They said no. I mean really you could go back and forth for years with those guys and until you hire an attorney that is out for blood, you will get nothing done. I got my new engine, VQ35DE high rev of course. I own an 06 Gcoupe 6MT. I told them I needed a new tranny also, but they didn't bite on that. Now I have a G with 38k miles but only about 5k on the engine. I was wondering if anyone new the time frame you need to let the piston rings "set in" or whatever they call it. I was told not to use synthetic oil until this process has occurred. Funny thing is Modern Infiniti Greensboro put in my new engine then they filled it with a syn-conven blended oil......then they tell me not to use syn oil until 25k mile has been put on the engine. I am trying to get some of that nissan oil that they added ester too. I hear it is much better at protecting your engine. But then again in the owners manual it says NEVER add any additives to your oil but yet now they add something to conventional oil and it is ok? I do not understand....They add something to conventional oil and jack the price way UP, I used mobil 1 in my old engine and it ate up every last drop of oil in less than 2000 miles, this is when I first noticed oil consumption, then I let infiniti do the oil changes and the test.

My 2004 6MT had 125,000, and I just had to foot the bill for a "new" engine. Mine started burning oil at about 90k. By 125k it was using a quart ever 150 miles or so. What a POS. I did not try to fight Infiniti on this, as I was well out of the drivetrain warranty. But I do feel that this is an inferior product, and tell everyone I can to be wary of these cars...lease them only and get rid of them before they exceed the warranty!

I was lucky to find a bare 24k motor for $1,600 delivered. Installation cost about $3,200 but that included a coil pack,a couple of injectors, all the gaskets and new hoses as well. My 30,000 mile ACT clutch had been ruined by the warped lightweight flywheel I got from Stillen, so that added another $1,200. I do hope to get the money back on that though, the flywheeel was definately defective. Expensive week!

Hopefully, this will get the car to 200k, at which point I will get rid of it or junk it. At least for now, the car drives great again.
