wow, this sucks. I wish I had seen this b4 my pwrtrain warranty expired.
I have 49.5k mi and in service date of 10-02
B/c my pwrtrain wty is over, I don't want to do spark plugs until I hit 100k mi; at that time(5 more years) I will find out if it is a regular job or valve cover/gasket job for 800-$1000 bucks
In the mean time,
I will watch out for rough idle, misfiring, rough/weak/hesitant acceleration-but that's it. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones!
btw, I would be afraid to tell the dealer to check for this problem b/c they could simply add some oil and show it to me and then charge me $1000 to fix. If I don't saying anything and they honestly find oil, will they tell me? Will I be suspicious? yes.

I'm at 125K miles right now and the car has been feeling a little sluggish lately. Which is actually ok because I've gotten three tickets in the past two years and I need to slow the heck down anyway. But anyway, I pulled the plugs just right now and lo and behold there's oil in there. I originally purchased the extended warranty too, but I'm pretty sure I'm way over that also.
ughhhhh, now I need to figure out what to do. I think I'm going to hold off on doing anything for the time being. I need to replace my brake pads/rotors first and then I'll get to it.

I just got my plugs replaced, and sure enough...the right side has oil leaking. I'm getting both sides replaced, and replacing the coil that leaked. Is $675 for parts good for this? I'm getting it done at my local repair shop - they're usually very good and have reasonable prices.
Wish I'd seen this post before my powertrain warranty went up...oh well.

I just replaced my plugs today, and sure enough, a fair amount of oil in the #6 plug tube. Enough so that when I pulled the plug, it ran down into the combustion chamber and blew out a nice white cloud of smoke when I started it back up.

Guys this is bull****. Everybody is talking about how these valve gaskets are failing well wtf why dont we get something fabricated. ****.

All these leaks are caused by factory not putting the seal in straight. If you were to buy a set of new valve covers from dealer flip them over and look at the back. 4/6 valve covers will have at least one that is not centered.
Machine "molds/melts" rubber seals in to the plastic valve cover. And as i said above has hard time getting that **** in straight. So as soon as rubber hardens after few years it is unable to keep an even seal around the spark plug tube...and leaks. Expect to replace the valve cover again in a couple years....promise.
Sadly i have done more of these valve covers then i can remember, and its the cause every time.

just had my plugs, valve covers, etc replaced on my 2003...$2500 with service for the first time @192k miles (plugs were supposed to have been changed at 105K - service people missed it)

checked my plugs a couple weeks ago and everything was bone dry. i have 60k on my car so will probably change the plugs at 68k or so and check for oil again. sounds like im a lucky one...so far

not like new, but much, much better; taking it back in again today because it stuttered/hesitated on a "hot start" the other day; no problems on cold starts

Cool, I'm looking forward to putting new plugs and valve covers into mine as well.
