PULLEY UPDATE miles/problems?
Re: PULLEY UPDATE miles/problems?
I have had my UR pulley for about a week now. Today the belt brakes off (power steering). I need advice, what should I do??

Re: PULLEY UPDATE miles/problems?
get a new belt, and a set of spare belts.

Hmm...what happen when the belt breaks off -_-''
I've just ordered the UR crank pulley set. I will have my bodyshop to install it for me. 1. He told me that it will take 4 hours of labor? True?
2. What should i tell him to becareful with?
3. If there is a problem, how can i notice it(or them)?
I hope i will enjoy this mod just like most of you~
Cheers

something I don't see reading through here (but may have missed it) is the weight issue.
Now first I AM NOT SAYING THE PULLEY CHANGE IS BAD - I AM THINKING ABOUT IT MYSELF FOR MY G !!!!!
Everyone agrees the stock pulley has no built in dapmening... so that is not an issue
I think everyone understands that the majority of performance gain comes from the weight reduction of the pulley, not UnderDrive factor. Acording to the manufacturer 85% of the HP/TQ gain is from weight reduction.
I am sure that both pulleys are equally well balanced.
The question is what is the effct of the reduced weight, and the inherent balance it adds. i.e. a lightend flywheel will offer a HP gain, and an engine that revs much easier, but it also takes away the inertia that prevents you from say snaking a crank shaft.
I suspect if there is any down side to the pulleys it would be on that front.
I am stewing on the issue, and am leaning toward getting a pulley

I spoke to Doug at crawfordz sometime ago, and he does not recomend installing after market pulley on our G35 engines.
He is an expert in this issue, especially talking about nissan engine. so, if he does not recommend it. Then, I think it's a bad idea to install pulley on our car. He doen't put aftermarket pulley on his 350Z.

Well lets see,
I've had my pullies on for about 18,000 miles now. I've had no problems at all with the engine in respects to vibration or anything else that could have been costrued as being caused by the pullies. At the same time I installed the pullies, I had a JWT flywheel installed, and still no problems. And I'm sure with the other mods on the car, if there was going to be any problems. I would have seen them by now. And I almost hydro-locked the engine during this past storm season. The car went into the dealership, and when they got it started back up. They said the engine was still strong.

Ray

DaveB: Are you sure about the multi-piece design and rubberized dampner ?
I haven't looked at one with my own eyeballs, but it appears from all the pics I have seen that it is a solid piece ?
Vic: It would be far more interesting to hear the exact reasons Crawford doesn't install. i.e. is there a dampner ? Is it the weight Issue I wondered about, etc ???
RacerX: 18k miles isnothing in the realm of what sort of problems would be caused if one were to occur. ~100k is the range I would guess at (cutting your engine life in half) as far as 'feeling' the vibration, etc... you never would feel it, see it, etc...
Now one of the articles someone posted was from a BMW guy, who showed how the OEM pulley is in fact a multipiece design with a rubber dampner... that is a no brainer, if you remove a dampner - you are a fool (unless you rebuild every 50k.. like a race car, toy car, etc)

Ok, can someone who has removed the OEM pulley take some pics
(front, back and side view) please and post.
DaveB says he's knows for a fact there is a rubberized dampner ???
It sure appears to be a solid forged piece from what I can see, and what the manual shows....
Now I am really curious ????

Ted,
Do you show a one piece unit or a two piece like Dave thinks there is? I think Dave is basing his facts on the VQ from the Maxima engine...I believe ours (B/C there was a million page thread about this last year) is one piece. I have had my UR Pulley for close to 20K now and zero issues fyi. I think Doug at Crawford may have over stepped his boundries if he did in fact say that...IMHO.
