No need to disconnect the battery for 12+ hours, thats just a waste of time.
D/C the battery, keep the positive on it though, take off the negative and hit your brakes ~5 all the way to the floor.
This kills whatever was leftover and should reset the ecu back to normal.

-------------turned ign. to on & waited (only) 3 seconds- just 'on', not started!
--------------floored and released gas/p 5 times within 5 secs.
--------------waited 7 secs then floored gas/p for 10 secs at which time the check engine light blinks
------------- release gas/p
------------- floor and hold gas/p for 10 secs.
-------------your done.
seems timing is very important on this
I've done the procedure but have no idea if it's had the desired effect yet. Won't know that 'till later today.
If successful, this looks like any easy way to erase the ECU's memory. I'll post my impressions later. Would someone else try it too?

I did start it momentarily when the wiring clip was unhooked but never drove it. Noticed it & hooked it up, and now still can not get this f***in light off! Any more suggestions would be so appreciated??? The car seems to run fine, just the lights on? Go to dealer? Thank you
Do what I said earlier in this thread...make sure everything is hooked up right...
After about half a tank of gas or so it should disappear as the ECU will start going through a check sequence making sure everything is ok.
Worse comes to worse, find someone with an OBDII scanner and have them clear it for you. I think Autozone still does it but they might charge now.

After my fifth try I got it
Some tips: (probably all been stated already)
Make sure after each attempt you turn off the key and then turn it back on
Try waiting a bit more than 7 seconds before holding the gas. I did it for exactly 7 and it never worked. Then I tried 8-9 and the first time it worked for me
Just keep at it
It really does work

reset ecu after adding cold air intake
about a year ago i added a K&N cold air intake, and ever since it has not been idling right. i disconnected the battery for about a minute. that seemed to help a bit, but it's never been the same. would the procedure you've described work for this or is it just for getting rid of the "check engine" light?
Seen it before too many times, the cold air intake may set the light and run rough, stock, the vehicle is designed to run with a factory air cleaner, put the factory one in and I bet it goes away. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but true

I tried your "Quick Disconnect" method and it worked great. The somewhat 'lazy' shifting was gone and it drove like the day I brought it home
Thanks for the valuble tip

I got my dealer to flash the ECU before I read this post.. cost $95 but he bumped up the ignition timing by 3 degrees. It seems to help acceleration and get to higher RPM's more quickly.
What I'm wondering is if the disconnecting of the cables and grounding them will erase that modification to the ignition timing? I'd like to preserve it if possible yet be able to fully clear the ECU on a monthly basis.
