Ya', what a great job you're doing Andy! Your questions and responses are logicial and straight forward. You also remember what been posted previously... a trait that not all possess.

Actually, I took DaveO's lead and removed the white filtering element shortly after installing it. I did this in hopes of, as DaveO had mentioned, affording the oil vapor a better flow path without impeding it . . . And hopefully allowing the same oil vapors to condense quicker and drop to the bottom of the catch bowl, which is what is happening at the moment. I make the same drive to and from work everyday. Perhaps, I'll reinstall the filtering element and see how that works, but the concern was that over a long period of time, the filtering element could potentially clog up and become less effective.

Dave,

As you can see, this issue is quite real for me . . . And as such, I need to better examine what and why things are happening. You and the rest of the members' inputs and comments, are the reason(s) why I am pursuing this issue in the manner which I am. It's truly a "Community" effort.

You don't want the filter. It's useless to have it with this mod. You only need the canister.

small question, is the canister you all are using made out of glass? and is there any larger version of it wherever you guys are getting it? I'm imagining that a wider opening (not necessarily taller) would work better because it allows for the gas vapors to expand in a larger volume before being pushed along the path, allowing more time for oil to collect.

Good question-good point!

The bowl is acrylic--plastic.

Larger volume, cooler area = better separation.

As I previously stated, I view this is filter as a temporary set-up until someone builds a G35 specific oil catch device.

they are plastic...it drains or unscrews pretty easily so you can empty it once a week if you had to

I have searched most of the day to find the right components to fabricate a G35 friendly size canister, but everything available is simply too large for an easy install.

I just posted pics of the accumulated oil, which collected today.

Russ, I like your bowl placement. Prior to viewing this thread, I drew up a bracket of sorts and plan to fabricate it with a few extra goodies. I plan to mount this bracket at the Power Steering Fluid bracket, as you have.

I am anxious to see your catch bowl after a few hard miles of driving.

Makes me wonder after doing Motor Sport Ranch and Texas Motor Speedway and a Autox how much that thing is going to fill up! I have those scheduled at the end of this month. That is all full throttle high rpm driving.

Here's my level after 250 miles of high speed driving.

Edit: Please include the type and weight of oil in your posts of this type. This was with Mobile 1 5W-30.

Cool

My car must be a freak.......

Now with 27K miles on her.....boosted w/ Vortech.....I can't tell that I use even a drop of oil between 4K changes.

I installed a catch can on top of my intercooler when I installed the SC, and hooked it up the same was as described here.

I can't see any oil in the lines or in the view tube on the can.

Oh well, knock on wood.....car is running GREAT!
