Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

My #9 and #10 are my own creations. Found a massive factory
ground on the chassis next to the washer fluid resivoir neck.
I attached a wire from that to Gordon's #1 wire behind the hood
sensor. My #10 goes from the rear plenum to a point half way
back. I just got carried away after I bought six feet of red jacketed
4 gague wire to see if I could make them. I plan on investigating
installing Gordon's #9 wire directly to the ECU, and there would
be another from the ECU to the TCU.

What's the verdict on performance or smoothness changes?

Can't really say since it drives like silk untill the howl from
the Stillen Hi-Flow Air Box and 350Z duct start. Even then
it drives super smooth, just sounds better! So I can't say
my wires add anything, just the satisifaction that I found
more places to Hyper-ground. It looks pretty bad-*** too.

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

Found another factory ground in the brake booster area on the fender
last night. So I made up an 11th wire and connected this brake
booster ground to our #6 wire on the drivers side strut. I'm sporting
11 wires now and have not yet done the ECU/TCU grounds.
I am getting carried away, that's a fact!

Cato:

Congrats on having the most grounded G35 on the planet! Make sure you let us know if they make any difference! It really depends on where those factory grounds go to. Otherwise they're just making extra chassis grounds. Still, it must look cool and now you officially have bragging rights!

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

Actually, my GroundingGear™ instructions list the extra hardware which is supplied. With my 7th wire, you should use a 16mm replacement bolt. The 6th wire of other kits may have a different origin point, so the 20mm bolt that I supply may or may not work.

Gordon:
I just wanted to make an official post here, so that everyone who has or is considering buy your wires will know how satisfied I am with your professional attention to this product. The kit is top notch and was an easy install. As far as HP claims I never got it officially Dyno'd as I am waiting for an exhaust upgrade. However, I can honestly say that my MPG has increased, as I usually had to fill up with about 260 miles on the trip odometer and now it's more like like 285 mostly city driving!!!! And that's just when the light comes on, not when I am empty. I love my 6 wire purple GroundingGear™ !!! For $75. my 6 wire set was a steal, when compared to other companys. i.e. Stillen , HKS, Sun. Thanks for the prompt replies and keep it "Grounded"!

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

where can i get these instructions, Gord?

also, when using loctite, should it be used only when you're replacing factory bolts with new ones, or any bolt your remove and replace? does the loctite go directly on the thread of the bolt/screw? what was that gel/spray you used to keep the wires from oxidizing?

thanks!

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

another question for you guys...

it was suggested that the sandwich bolt for the rear right location of the intake manifold (plenum, probably 5th wire) should be secured to about 5 - 10 lbs... what exactly does that mean? how do you know if the torque is at that measurement?

also, none of the instructions seem to indicate which wires will require a replacement bulb.. and to which point of that particular wire... when i've been reading this, ppl have said this wire or that will require this bolt, but each wire has two ends and i'm not sure which end to which point actually requires the bolt... sorry for all the questions.. i'm gonna install this weekend and want to be ready.. thanks!

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

My advice is not to use loctite at all. It's really not needed, just torque to between 7-10 ft-lbs and you should be fine. Mine are still holding without using loctite. I'm really not sure what the best thing to use on the wire strands is. You could try gooping it with any antioxidant paste from an electrical supplier. This is one reason that I specially spec'd the solid copper lugs that I exclusively use (also to minimize high frequency skin-effect). Their design minimizes oxidation and I also seal each lug/jacket joint with a high temp sealant which takes overnight to cure. The clear shrink tube I use provides some extra mechanical strength as well as to give you a good view to make sure you know how carefully I assemble each wire. I have engineered several jigs that I use to ensure consistency of the look and construction of each wire. I believe this is the reason that several have mentioned the quality apparent as compared with most of the kits out there. My specific instructions are only supplied with my kit and are © 2003 GroundingGear™ to prevent reproduction and on the advice of my legal counsel. I would be glad to help out a fellow mod if necessary re specific install points, but my preference is for ppl to contact the manufacturer of their kits to make sure the instructions apply to the specific lengths supplied.

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

Gord: If I may put my 2 cents in here? I did not use loctitte and don't think it's necessary at all. WARNING!!!!! DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN these bolts, it is easy to do just a lil grip will do it!!!!! Less is more. Trust me on this one.

Re: Hyper-Ground (Earthing) Kit Resource Thread

Agreed. I put this warning in my install instructions. Several of the 350Z guys have either stripped, snapped, or crossthreaded bolts, and at least one G35 driver as well. It's easy to get carried away when tightening, especially with the aluminum blocks, etc. Investment in a torque wrench is always a good idea when working on our cars. It's cheaper than making a mistake, or having to pay a tech to do some of the work.
