i agree 1080>720. however, at what viewing distance can you tell the difference?

i love my 19" lcd for gaming however its got the enhanced brightness that makes it look like a crt. crt's are still the best picture and plasmas are way closer to them than lcds.

pioneer plasmas are hands down the best true black tv on the market. now i agree on paper samsung has the better tv but its also what makes your eyes happy.

ive seen enough stories with problematic tvs that id rather be able to just carry it back in then wait a month to get a new tv.

Just be aware that 99% of the TVs will have the brightness and contrast set way too high (torch mode) out of box. Brighter TVs sell better than properly calibrated "darker" TVs, so that's why they come like that out of the box.

When you get it home, turn down the brightness and contrast, then calibrate it with one of the calibration DVDs or the test patterns that some og the HD channels like HD Net broadcast on occation.

I debated for a long time on this issue. I bought a Pioneer 5071 about a year and a half ago. I am a tech guy so I was hyped about getting a 1080P, but I can't see that difference from my 14' viewing difference. The Pioneer just has such a beautiful picture. BTW, the pioneer accepts 1080P inputs.

I have a Samsung LCD as well and had similar issues with mine. I resolved them by doing a firmware upgrade on the TV. The upgrade itself is pretty simple to do, just put it on a USB drive, plug it into the TV, and go into the menu settings and initiate the upgrade. You can check the AVSforums for your specific model or try and find it on Samsungs website.

I'd seriously suggest the $399 PS3....I download my bluray and HD and display on my plasma, but when I get a bluray player that's what I'll do.

+1 on the PS3. Check out this link on one reason why it might be the best Bluray player. www.crunchgear.com

Also check out the link entitled "FUBAR" which covers issues regarding Profile versions and how getting a Bluray player with an old profile is a bad idea.
