If you want, you can D/L Bluray movies. Just be warned that they usually average about 35+ GB in size. There are a few private torrent sites that offer these D/L's. (if anyone is interested let me know and I'll send invites out) Also if you're computer savvy you can always load linux onto your PS3 and use it to rip Bluray movies directly to your PS3.

Yeah, I have the PS3 and the Sony remote. It works just fine--like any normal DVD player. Blu-ray movies are rentable at Blockbuster or you can buy them, and it will play regular DVDs, just not HDDVD. Just be sure to update your settings to 1080p as said. The PS3s online feature is cool, too. You can use it to surf the web, though buying the external keyboard makes that easier, too...

35gb is a heck of a download.

Unfortunately those torrent sites are what is prompting Time Warner (RoadRunner) to start charging based on the amount of downloaded data. I'm hoping to get Verizon's FIOS before that happens.

Yeah I heard Time Warner was moving towards that, which is really weak on their part.

As far as Verizon goes, I couldn't be happier with my Internet service and d/l speeds. I don't know how it compares to Time Warner (not offered down here) but I will say that it was a lot better than Comcast.

Good luck with the switch.

tv is freaking sick. just watched some of king kong and some tiger show in hd. like whoa!

got hdmi cable for the cable box. ill definitely use hdmi for the ps3 if i get it. using component cables right now for my old dvd/sound system to the tv. its also got s-video and digital audio? is it worth getting digital audio? s-video i wont bother if i get a ps3.

so a 40gig ps3 is all i need? ill get the remote, maybe the keyboard. cept my cable modem is in my office so it'll be a long wire to get online.

i went ahead and lowered the video setting to standard, as well as some of the power settings to protect from burn in and such. not really sure what else to change. anyone with a plasma ever follow any "break-in" procedures? ill probably do some reading on avsforum just lazy now.

edit: btw, upconverting regular dvds only gets you up to 720.

I think I read somewhere on digg they are planning on discontinuing the 80 gig (not positive on that though).

If you dont feel like running a long cable to your cable modem you can try connecting wirelessly.

Def get it out of 'torch' mode....I still run my plasma at ~40 brightness instead of the 75 it was set to from the factory.

Just follow the breakin for the first 100 hours, shouldn't take long. AVS is where to go for the guide to your particular brand settings.

turned it down to standard and power saving mode 1 for now. break in settings are only if you use break in dvds which i havent really given much thought.

what about isf calibration? anyone got this done? know anyone who does it?

I had my Samsung DLP ISF calibrated almost 2 years ago. It made a very noticable difference in the picture quality.

You don't have much of a chance of actually burning anything in at this point but you can get IR that's annoying for a few hours. I used the Discovery channel a lot in the beginning so that I never had static images on the screen.

My plasma is 8 months old now and gorgeous. I followed another guide to calibrate the tv myself and it came out very nice.

thanks for the link sean. ill look into calibration some more.

is digital audio that much better than component for sound to my surround sound?

edit: which cables? just look 6' hdmi, preferably 1.3b i guess.

wow WORST luck ever with this tv. so kevin (kpgreene) came over to help me move the tv's around. got the old tv moved and put on the old stand in my office. then we put the new stand together and start hooking stuff up. we go to put the new tv on and it doesnt fit! im like wtf. i measure and its 19.5" even though it said 18.5". fxcking unbelievable. so now im searching everywhere for a stand that will fit. i think i found 1 at sears so now i have to go order that 1. best buy said i can just return this stand assembled for my $ so thats a relief. man this has been the longest week, just needed to vent.
