I have a Mustnag I have a lot of $$$ in. bored & stroked the 302 toa 331. I have a procharger on it...

If I had that to do all over again... I would had started with a 351. Bored and stroked it to a 408 and a mild tune... all motor and less headaches...

Quote: Yes the bottom end is done(spare short block), the heads are getting cams/springs and a valve job next week. Should be tuned by ~the 4th.

The greddy was great on my stock block. I had to pull some timing out in the summer heat but overall it was great.
That's one of the smartest things I have heard all day. Have a spare ready to go in if your stock block so happens to go.

Props on you.

Thanks guys for all of the input about your past experiences. I've been flirting with the idea of FI but I just don't have $10,000 - $20,000 of disposable income on a mod that frankly doesn't seem worth its time and effort. How stupid of me to think I could get away with one for about $7,000 out the door. A couple buddies of mine messed with aftermarket turbos for their rides and both of them completely regret doing it. Thanks again guys

There's alot of insight in this thread. I was surprised to learn of all those who would have stayed NA if they could go back. I'm one of those who is waiting and trying to make up my mind which way to go.... stay NA, SC or Turbo.

You can if you do some of the work and wait for a good deal. You can do some of the work if you are mechanically inclined and once you are done then have a Pro to do the tuning I know at least a couple who did an STS Turbo and stayed at that price range.

A couple did their own STS install in their garage with only a Jack and a stand and so far non of the STS owner has blown a motor with the stock kit.

STS Kit = $5000 (The kit is complete and I mean complete with a good EMS and a good size injector)
Tuning = $400-$600
Greddy turbo Guage-$170
Innovate wideband- $325
Greddy Oil Pressure -$175

Total = $6270

the responses from this thread has still not discouraged me of going FI but again I do think about the long run and the problems I "might" encounter. You have to think about your car as either a investment or a hobby in the end and which one weights more IMO.

SO the general consensus is...If you're gonna do it, do it right from the start? For example built motor, Twin Turbo, Good tune you should be fine right? I am looking to FI my G this summer and I want to make sure I cover every step to avoid future problems.

this topic is very debatable.

I'm going with the JWT 530's on stock internals. That being said, I also
realize the rods are the weakest link..that tells me to #1 have a good tune
and also shift before 6k..folks who I spoke to have this same kit (Z's-FX's) and over 50-60k on the clock...key is..good tune + shifting before redline

now if you drive the f/i like james bond..more then likely she will go boom
before you know it.

it's all realtive..my $.02 beans

If I could go back, I probably would have kept the G bone stock as a DD, and put the ridiculous amount of money I've spent going FI (plus money I spent on an M3 to have a car while the G is constantly in the shop) toward a certified 06 Z06 - some of those beasts are going for $57-58K now. Would've done simple bolt-ons to the vette, CAI, cat-back exhaust, and long tube headers, looking at ~540 bhp, stupid fast race car, and under warranty. I'm an outlier though, got my SC from the bad batch last summer, I'm currently on unit #3 (in 8 months).

But that being said, there is something special about an FI G, I get so many gawks since the Vortech sounds like an F-16. No one sees us coming.

Im comming from a pretty modded out WRX. I toyed with the idea of going FI. But I drive way to much to ever be able to be with out my car. IMO if its not FI from the factory and its your daily dont put FI on it.

when a manufacture build an FI car when they start with the block that block is ment to have FI ran through it and then they work from there. I love how people think to that in any NA car they can just throw pistons and Rods in and it will be safe. It may be the case with a G/Z but not alot of other vehicles.
