Hills Garage ~500 WHP out of a Vortech with ease
people kill me with dyno numbers.
esp on these motors. they only start to make usable power after 4000rpms.
compare any one of the dynos from a vq to a vh45, vk56, 5.3, thats only making 300whp, and it still will walk all over a 500hp vq.

what kils me is people who hate for no reason. this thread isnt about what car is faster then the other . if i wanted to build a car to smoke everyone it wouldnt be a g35 . but 500 hp is a accomplishment and a fun car to drive and in my case i have a sedan and love being a sleeper. why are you in this thread if you already know that people kill you talking about these cars? lol

Sounds like you've never driven a boosted VQ35 before. If it took 30 seconds to get to 4000rpm than your statement would be true but it obviously isn't. The power curve only matters significantly on engines of similar power output. How exactly do you figure an engine making 200 less HP/TQ would be faster???

you hit 500hp 200 rpms before redline everywhere else you are cruising well below 300hp.
and yes i have driven plenty of boosted vq motors. vortech, turbos, top mount ect. as well as many many v8 swaps and builds. every single time the v8 with less power is still pulling ahead.in a car of like stats obviously.
its just an observation, im not trying to **** in anyones cheerios. but for the cost of a 500hp supercharger build you could be NA v8 making less PEAK horsepower, but way more tq and horsepower through the whole rpm band.
I agree with what you're saying regarding the superchargers, as well as the capabilities of the V8. But to say any V8 will ultimately be faster than any FI build is what I disagree with. At least thats what I got from your post. If I were to put a 300hp V8 in my car right now I would venture to say it would be slower at the tracks. No doubt it would it would accelerate better in the lower RPM's but 550hp from 4300rpm to redline would take it in the end.
Now, if we're talking about modified LS motors than I agree with you 100%. LS's are more than 300hp but I haven't seen any track times of one in a G35.

no im not going to say its going to beat it every time. but these motors hp and tq curves are not ideal. its a light switch at the very end.
all im saying is all this money being tossed into a build that hits 500hp is all for naught if you only make 500hp for a very small window. and that window happening to be at the very end.

because there is a massive difference in PEAK horsepower. yes a 300hp v8 semi stock will only put down around 300hp at peak but it doesnt have much to build because tq and hp are hitting peak numbers well before you hit 500. and not only that but can carry it to redline.

This is a twin turbo GTX2867 VQ35DE motor. If you want to shift the powerband to the left you can put in smaller turbos. It is all about trade offs but it is very possible to achieve a flat torque curve with a FI VQ car. Just sayin... (Also you do realize most dyno operators won't put the throttle to 100% until about 3k rpms anyway, right?)

I think what you are trying to communicate is that the large displacement NA motors have great low end torque and with the newer engines breathe quite well up top for a nice flat torque curve. This is all true but the area under the power curve is what matters. If the car drives in its powerband and has more area under the curve than the next guy then it will go faster (traction not withstanding). The first dynograph in this thread is a really gorgeous accomplishment for a FI motor. It gradually increases torque to redline. There is no torque drop off towards redline! This car will compete really well with any large displacement motor.

Andrew does have a valid point though. But I think went around presenting it wrong. RC basically sums it up. My buddy use to whip my *** bad in his c6z06 with less whp and more trq. So I eventually sold the car in my profile and bought a viper which was night and day even though they had similar numbers. But I came back to the vq and bought a sweet g35 sedan for a DD. The VQs are great for what they are and im trying to resist the urge to vortech this one. But they seem to lose to cars that are putting down less hp and trq. Still love mine and think this is a bad *** build,

Super rad! This makes me excited to see what mine puts down. Built motor now on the 14psi pulley. If that number is what you pulled on pump gas and stock internals, this is gonna be good.
