vortech/ST power control?

hey, i no you guys are ganna think im weird, but is their anyway to decrease the power of a vortech or the netics ST? like something around 320rwhp? the thing is, i almost have all the funds, but my father said i should(have to) wait untill next summer to go with FI since he doenst want me to have that much power too early (turn 17 in two months), so i was wondering if i could lower the hp for a lil while then when i have enough experience i could boost it.
shouldnt that be more safe on the engine too?

thanks,
Kevin

Man I wish I had a G when I was 17.......Even more so....I wish I had a dad who didn't care if I completely voided any sort of meaningful warranties to go FI........First of all.....GO TURBO, you'll thank yourself in the long run. THe car is way more fun when a wave of power hits you at 3500 rpm. The SC is too linear if you are looking to get hte most fun out of your driving experience. I don't see why you couldn't bring the hp down. I mean a conservative A/F ratio and a good electronic boost controller to lower the boost to a desired.....lowness I guess. I mean I don't think there is a minimum psi an electronic boost controller can hold.

soudns good. thanks. and yea, im starting to lean towards the turbonetics kit,(esp, for 4300!!). how long have u been in dallas? i was not aware we had a greddy TT in dallas. cant wait to see it.
so, after i get the ST kit,(say 4400 all said and done) how much will everything else be that i need. and what guages do i NEED, i would really like to have jsut two and put them in the Navi spot(dont ahve Navi).

also, yea i am VERY lucky, and the warrentee is up in a year so its not that bad.

For someone so young (bear in mind I'm basically twice your age) the linear power that a Centrifugal S/C provides might actually be better for you if you really do go FI. A single turbo will spool up so quick that your rear end will snap out from behind you in a heartbeat. Being only 17 I think it's fair to say that you have a limited amount of time behind the wheel. I've been driving for, well, longer than you've been alive and this is the most powerful car I've ever driven for more than 1-2 miles at a time. It is nice to have this much power, but even I have a tendency to REALLY SPIN THE TIRES and then there's the tendency to have the back end start to get away from me with the VDC off and I'm trying to be careful.

Just a few random thoughts... YMMV

Neffster has a huge point. I hope Randy will put his 2 cents in here after having driven both my car and his I think he will also say much the same thing that Neff is saying. I drove Randy's Vortech G and my TT G and it is like night an day. The TT will just attack you after 3300 rpm. The Super feels like a fast NA version of the G (with the SC whine and BOV of course). But in terms of which is easier to control I would have to say SC as well. I break traction all over the place but then again I have been driving for a long while....I'm willing to bet it's not as long as Neff. But I also had a turbo prelude before the turbo G so I was aware of the kind of kick I would get after it spooled.

I would think that you should look at apending another $700 to $900 on surrounding parts. That includes a good tune and dyno. It also depends on your injectors and the boost controller you choose. Obviously a manual one is cheaper but you can't up the boost electronically or have a high and low boost setting. Also a unit like a Greddy E-01 has a pretty good sized LCD read out with a boost gauge in it, EGT, A/F....all the gauges you were going to spend about $300 or more on are in that unit. I swear by that thing. It also has his and low boost switch and a remote. I would also say a turbo timer. Not many people go with a turbo timer on a supercharged engine but it could never hurt, IMO.

If your dad is going for it . Go for the SC . With the stock pulley you will get right around 320whp and if you tune it and dyno it on a load based dyno . You'll still be with in the 320whp limit . But you'll be making just as much as the guys making 360 to 370whp on a Dynojet dyno . You'll be able to upgrade it later on down the road when you get a little older

I agree with Neff on this one... I did drive HYPES car and it's night and day from my car. His power comes on so fast that it puts you in your seat HARD! I will def go with TT in the future for this reason. But, being that we are talking abot a 17 yr old, I'd say to stick with Vortech and UPGRADE when you've driven a boosted car for a few years and have added some maturity to your age. I'm not saying you are immature, I'm saying you don't have enough life experience to know what to do with that much power...GO SC if you want to live!

+1 on the S/C, you have the rest of your life to go ST or even TT

I absolutely agree with all the SC guys. Randy had a great explaination. Leaving one of out meets I damn near lost control of it changing lanes in lower gears. But You will not at all be disappointed with an SC. They make great linear power and it's a predictable curve. Save your money (and your life) for now and wait on the Turbo.

Your time will come young grasshopper....

You don't NEED anything else to maintain a safe kit. If you WANT, you can get gauges...I'd rec BOOST, A/F, and FUEL PRESSURE if anything.
