Hmmmm . . . not sure. They didn't tell me. I believe they will top it off and them check again after another 1000 miles just to make sure. I'm definitely gonna push for a new engine though. I don't want them to tear mine down and try to fix it.

Imma go check my 2006 manual now to see if it states basicaly the same as yours.
If it doesn't, well...yeah, I'd call that a CYA and in an indirect way, admitting to this problem.
Thanks for the udated info for 2007 coupe how'd you get one of those?? Thought those weren't released yet...

[EDIT]
Nope...my 06 manual says the same in the 'Maintenace and do-it-yourself section'.
Oh well, thanks for the thought.
Same here.

DAMN, I LOVE my dealer ..
I just called them today, I'm going to get my car towed in today for "oil comsumption"..
I asked about this, he said he's seen 1 other one do the same thing and they're probably going to have to replace the short-block. he can't say for sure until the car is in there, but more than likely that's what's going to have to happen..
These guys are good at making sure all is well.

+1,000,000,000!!!!! Your valves, cams, etc. may have also been damaged. Insist on a whole new engine not just the short block. Believe me, I will not accept anything less than that. My engine still runs strong and pulls hard but who knows what the long term effects will be. Engine life/reliability may have been significantly shortened when I was running low on oil.

If these cars cams/lash/rocker setups are anything like the 3000gts then the lack of oil isn't nearly as bad as youthink up top. The ticking is really just the rocker tapping against the lash adjusters. The rockers then have a wheel on the other side that roll with the cams.. Once any oil is up there it's usually ok for a good while. They are highly polished and roll nicely I will, however, ask the dealer to show me the cams so I can look for any scoring or "cuts".

Honestly bro, in a case like yours (and mine too), once you get to the point that you were so low on oil that it started making that crazy noise, I wouldn't even want any part of that engine anymore. Why take a chance? I want a brand new VQ long block.

Here is my problem. I checked my oil and it was sitting right on the L line. I am running a Stillen SC. My oil is changed every 3k so right before I took it in I checked it. It was sitting over night so I know that the oil level is correct.

My question is...

When looking at the dipstick and seeing that the oil level is on the low line, how many quarts low is it?

Or... do what I did.. put no oil in it, call road side service and have the car towed to your dealer. It appears my car only had 1 quart of oil left. The dealer was told to monitor my car every 1000miles .. They don't want to, but have to kind of deal. I am going to have to deal with that. The service manager said it'll have to be checked every 1000miles and they'll have to replace the engine anyway..

I notice in your sig you have a 67 MGB-GT. Very cool. I had a 1964 MGB roadster in high school It was the last of the 100 hp motors and had the aluminum hood. It had 12 coats of Cadillac red and the wire wheels.

The "surfer" chicks at the beach would just fall out of their boyfriends vans to get a ride in it.

Exclamation New Engine Ordered!

Ok, here is the conclusion of this thread (at least for me, the thread starter). The dealer finally caved in and ordered me a new engine. Actually, just a short block (to the head mechanics disgust).

It was not easy, took a lot of whining to the customer service representative. If you have this same oil consumption problem, stay persistent, document everything, and don’t take no for an answer.

That's what I've been saying for years.
