You know what you could do, check your oil a lot. Wipe off as much of the oil you can from the dipstick and do it multiple times. All those drops add up if you do that a few times a day, everyday. No joke...thats what I did
haha!! ^^^This guy . . . . but yeah, that's a good idea!

Why do they have your car?? Can't you just use it until the engine comes in and then you take the car in??

Nope. Infiniti Headquarters will not let them release the car until after the work is done. Ive asked and pleaded with them, trust me!

Hmmm . . . okay. That's interesting. I know a couple of the other guys that got their engines replaced kept their cars until their engine was in and then the dealer just called them to bring their G's in.

Hmm, maybe Ill call them monday to ask again but Ive already asked a few times and begged them for my baby back.

I wonder how many people have actually had their engine replaced and I wonder how many it will take in order for Infiniti to do some sort of recall?

I'd sure like to find out what the culprit of this problem is!

^^^Yup...you and all of us with oil drinking VQ's.

Hey Exreme...
Did the Dealer ever tell you their test results and what made them conclude you get a replacement and why due to a certain cause?

G/L Monday when you try to convince them to let you drive your ride until the new VQ comes in.
If not, well maybe at the very least, a loaner 6mt coupe or a new sedan with that VQ35HR. That wouldn't too bad.

The dealer did not tell me any of the results of any of the tests besides the oil consumption test(oil change and bring the car back 1500 miles to drain the oil and measure the amount of oil that is drained and compare that number to how much they put it). They did a compression test but did not share the results. They already knew that the engine would need to be replaced prior to the compression test. They just needed to do that test for the headquarters to approve of the new engine.

Im paranoid now tho...what if they order me the wrong engine. What if they replace it with a non-revup engine? Im probably worrying about something I shouldnt be worrying about. Should I even ask the dealer? They wouldnt make that mistake, would they?

They gave me a 2006 G35 sedan loaner. Ill call on monday morning to beg and plead again for my baby for the time being. Id love to be able to take it to the Thanksgiving cruise, especially since it will be right in San Diego. Id like to get my car back and drive the absolute crap out of it and tear up the engine. Its getting replaced anyways...why not? haha

The thing about it is that there is no rhyme or reason why some VQ's are perfectly fine and others aren't. My 05 G had absolutely no problems with oil. Nissan/Infiniti really needs to figure out why this is happening and resolve the issue.

No way am I ever going to stop down-shifting/rev matching. I love using the engine as a brake. Thats half the fun of driving a stick. If my new engine has the same problem...I dont know what Ill do. Part out and make em give me a new coupe or a new sedan?

I honestly don't think that is the problem. I rev matched and downshifted all of the time on my 05 6MT coupe and NEVER had an oil problem.

I call BS on that one from that Dealer.
Your engine is in a no load condition while engine braking and you sure aren't going to blow oil past the rings more so while under those conditions rather than under a WOT or load condition. Valve guides, I think can be a factor under those conditions, but don't quote me on that.

My Dealer told me these VQ's have real high vacuum conditions over 3000rpm or so. And oil gets sucked through the PCV valve into your plenum, then it goes you know where and exists you know how. The 'oil catch can' thread proves this and some have a lot of oil in the catch can while others don't.

Still the question at hand is, why some lose oil while others don't.
