I was just talking to Infiniti Warranty service. I have to fax in my VIN number to them and then contact a dealer for the oil consumption test OC. I have about 1100km or about 683 miles left on my 110,000km or Five years which ever comes first warranty. I will be on the phone tomorrow to book an appointment. The nearest Infiniti dealership to me is about 350km (217 miles) in Newmarket, Ontario. Hope I don't get too much resistance in this process.

My 2004 was manufactured in July of 2003. I will have to find out when the original owner purchased the vehicle or my five years may already be up even though I'm under the mileage.

Actually my warranty on the powertrain is good for six years or 110,000km. So my warranty is still good but not by much. Let the battle begin for an replacement engine begin.

Just double checked my US info and it is also 6/70, not 5/70 as I stated before. Awesome that your skating in under the wire I wonder if the previous owner would have let the car go if they had known they could get a new engine

pre owned

I just bought an used 06 6MT AB coupe. Took it in to have the OC test done on the car last week. Dealership told me to bring it back in 500mi. Which dosen't make any sence to me since the TSB says 1000-3750mi. I asked why the 500mi and he didn't have an answer I told them I would bring it back in a 1000mi. I have been reading a lot on this thread and I was wondering does the TSB cover you if you still have the warranty but do not have all the oil change records since I am the second owner. Dealerhip said Infinity wouldn't cover the replacement if I couldn't find them. Thanks for any help

Can't help you on that one. Bought mine new and had all service records in Infiniti's system.

Maybe previous owner had service done at Infiniti. Database would have those service records when they enter the VIN at any Infiniti dealership.

figured id add my story...05 5at (yeah i know i NEVER hear of this with autos) with 65k miles...

anyways, wednesday my engine light came on and i was like whatever im getting my oil changed next week. friday car started shuddering and i got worried, parked it overnight. saturday morning i literally pull 2 feet into infiniti and the car died completely - engine would not turn. so they call me a couple days later and say the engines seized and they are trying to get me a new 1 under warranty.

finally they write it up as "broken oil pump" but they say it was oil consumption. they said its from "excessive downshifting" which doesnt make sense to me. ive driven the same way for 65k miles with no issues until now. guy even tried to say it was my exhaust for a second but i was like dont make up crap.

either way, 3 weeks later i ended up with a new motor and 12 month/12k mile warranty for the cost of a $50 oil change. cant really complain i guess although i still want to know wtf happened...

^ Actually I have heard more and more of non revups going south on OC on the many other OC threads with low oil levels. Even non revups on 350Z's tho not many. Those were also with over 60K on odo and real close to warranty gone.

Kinda sounds like that dealer was about to BS you with stupid stuff and deny you, but glad they didn't.

First one I've heard with an oil pump gone bad. That would cause your engine to seize soon afterward. Stuff happens and glad you were under warranty.

the oil pump DIDNT go bad. they wrote it up as that because corporate did not want to admit oil consumption on the non rev-up. so im actually grateful to them for once.

I've had this exact problem w/ my '02 Altima M/T SE. It suddenly went through 3-4qts between an oilchange last summer and I have been keeping an eye on the OC since (consumption has settled down since then but I'm still concerned).

I'm considering a trade-in for an '07 G35x sedan. Do you guys know if the newer '07 VQ engines have resolved this issue?

Haven't heard of those in all the OC threads I subscribe to here, my350Z and elsewhere, but you might want to troll/search those related sections to see if any reports on that. I don't go in there b/c I don't have a 07+ sedan and/or a VQ35HR engine.

thanks V35, i haven't read anything myself either, but I'm guessing that the VQ35HR engine may be too new to exhibit this problem to a significant degree yet.

But, I hope the VQ35HR did correct this problem we're having with the VQ35DE's.

NP...time will tell on those I suppose, but my oem revup had OC from day one new. So with that said, I would think if there were OC issues with the HR, there be posts already about them since they were released back in 2007 and are also in the 07 6mt 350Z's as well...

I have an 04 6MT i bought used with 42k miles. started checking for OC problems and it was apparent i had this issue. The first Infiniti dealer i went to tried bsing me into buyin 850 dollar valve covers to fix the problem if that wasnt the fix then they would do the motor. Being that i am a Nissan tech i did my own research "called nissan my self" turns out this dealer was just trying to make me pay cash for sumthing. I will trow a very bad CSI report to them. Im currently doin OC test with a more respectable dealer and im on my last leg of OC test and looks like i will be getting the motor this month sum time.

Goin to add NISMO clutch/cover , flywheel, and headers, good idea? while its out
