How to correctly drive an MT.
i dont see how the g pedal can be softer with the spring. that would mean the pedal is even more stiffer then it already is.
when im releasing the pedal its pushing back up pretty hard already. thats wat i like. maybe my wording is wrong or something. its jus easier to play with the pedal when im releasing the clutch cus the feedback is so strong that i can feel it the entire way. am i explaining it right? so with the spring out the pedal will push back even harder? maybe with the bmw the spring rate is softer thats why i can barely feel it pushing back on my foot.

like someone said earlier, the spring is an assist spring to make the "press down" easier. but when the pedal is coming back up, that spring returning is what you feel FIRST. THEN as it tapers off, your actual CLUTCH starts to engage.
removing the spring makes it harder to push the pedal to the floor. "harder" used loosely, i couldn't really tell a difference, but when you go to let out of the pedal, it's ALL CLUTCH. not some trickery.
@Jabbers...you will not regret it my friend. just read thru the whole DIY and pay attention. you'll be fine. the tranny changes into a whole new thing. it's actually something you'll have to "relearn" how to drive it, but it's easier to drive. it behaves normally. cause now you are driving accustomed to the weirdo tranny...kinda like the guy that wore glasses that made everything upside down. his brain eventually interpreted the images so everything was right side up/normal to him.....but then he had to take the glasses off.........and it was all upside down again.
basically you just have to unlearn the weird driving habits this tranny generates.

DOMO
^lol nah i already like it the way it is. again it could jus be that its my first mt so i didnt bring over any previous habits or experience that you guys might already have from other cars. plus its a bitch doing things down there. i already struggle to aim the wd40 properly. its so uncomfortable down there lol
I accomplished the same thing by doing the driver mod.
I seriously don't get the continued complaining of rough shifting. It just takes a bit of coordination to remember the engagement point. You should know where the engagement point is regardless of how the clutch feels.
I don't down talk the mod though, I'm sure it feels great. But having to drive BMW clutches often makes my car feel as weak as I need it to be.
I have taken out a clutch valve on an 04 330ci and I noticed a bit of difference, but it did not affect the feel of the clutch majorly.
Edit: I did start driving this car when I was 15. Two days after getting my permit, my dad threw me the keys and ordered me to drive home lmao.

AND...was that mod free? cause i think not.

and you aren't feeling the engagement. with this spring assist thing, you never feel 100% pure clutch engagement. you are initially feeling spring 80% clutch 20%. then you are feeling spring and clutch 50/50. then 20% spring and 80% clutch.
and like you said, you "learned" how to drive on a crappy feeling pedal. i "learned" how to "put up with it" and i could drive it OK, but i constantly had to think about it. now, it's instinct. which is how all the other manuals i've driven have been. i dunno, maybe it's cause most of them were trucks, but this clutch felt like there was a disconnect between what my foot/leg felt, and what the transmission was doing....and that because there WAS.
if you can drive it normally, that's great. wanna gauge how well you are really driving it? watch your passenger's head. when you let the clutch out, if their head moves much, you aren't doing a good job. you may think you are doing a good job, but you know what to expect, and can tense your muscles (involuntarily) to prepare. they don't know, their body has no preparation. and i don't mean this as a single person, this is just a general statement.
