Ha! I seem to have managed a new problem then all the others in this thread. My gauge isn't reading at all. It moves a little when you turn on the car, but stays waaay below "E". It's kinda hard to tell if it moves as you use gas, as there is very little place for it to move down; I guess I could stick a sticky on the dash to mark where it was when I filled up.

Thoughts? Without replacing a sending unit, how would I check its operation to see if the unit has failed?

Ah, well at least it isn't *only* me. If you hear anything about it, let me know! I'm not so much in the mood to go mucking around aimlessly when it is -10 C out...

I had it fixed once in the spring of 2011. Then I noticeed that the needle bounced dramaticly with my weak, 6 yr. old battery, starting this winter. It bounced to the back side as in the picture. A few weeks later it bounced back to the right side and worked fine. Then it bouced to the backside again when I delayed turning the starter switch from "on" to "start".
I have replaced the battery and haven't seen it bounce since. It goes back to the shop to be fixed when I can afford it.

Well, one more data point: The Low Fuel light continues to work correctly. This seems to indicate that the fuel level sensors are working correctly and it is an instrumentation problem. Ugh.

Right. It's not the sending unit. It's the gauge itself. In my case I think it was caused by a weak battery when starting the car.

Mine did this after my battery was replaced. I made the mistake of having 3A come out to replace one on the spot. It went from dead old battery, to new one but the person left it in accessory mode, new battery drained overnight, new 3A guy came out the next day and jumped the dead, new battery. The surge spun the gauge around just like that.

Since 3A was paying, I took it to the dealership. They took the dash apart and put the needle where it should have been. I haven't had a problem since.

PLEASE HELP! I did this one time with no trouble at all, but it started acting up again, so I went to do it again. Driver side went fine and I thought passenger side went fine although I lost one screw for over the pump. Went to fill up to see if car would go up to full, and when I was about 2 gallons in (tank was about 3/4 full) It started to shoot out the bottom of my car. So I popped the rear seat and started filling it again to check the pump. The hose was on all the way but it was literately leaking out from around the fuel pump. It only leaks when filling.

maybe you should go to Infiniti/Nissan and ask them for a replacement screw? it should only be like $13 or you can get the screw size and go to lowes or home depot and see if they have the size you need.

I just wanted to make sure that was the problem because it feels like the pump is down firmly and the side is not popping up at all. It was leaking out near the screws to. It just comes out around the pump.

idk how the fuel system works but if its a pressureized system then I would think that that screw may have something to do with completing a seal. maybe? idk...

I am hoping that is it and I don't need a new o-ring I'll be stopping by Lowes today to get matching screws. I'll let you know what happens.
