On the Fuel Milage/octane/cost issue....

Everyone has their own thoughts, but here are mine... Between both of my G35's I owned them for about 4 years total....

In that time I traveled about 125k miles between both of them. Averaged at best 20mpg. Thats 6,250 gallon of gas in 4 years just in the G35.

Just figuring gas at $3 a gallon I have spent $18,750 in gas driving to work and back for the last 4 years of G35 ownership. Thats buying 87 octane... figuring a safe bet of $0.15 a gallon more for 89 and another $0.15 a gallon to step up to 93.... that would had been $20,625 in fuel for 4 years... $2,000 more.... $500 more a year...

I feel the savings was worth it.

I spent 164 dollars at dinner Saturday night. I dont really worry over an extra 20-40 dollars a month in gas.

I guess it can really be application alot too I had FI and Nitrous on my last two cars. Even my G37 has custom tune. The maps are always done at 93 octane and I never wanted to risk a lower octane gas to mess with my car.

I will admit when I get loaners from the dealership, I do put in 89 everytime.

Still using premium here. doesnt matter that it is .20 cents more a gallon, across the board it is still going to be expensive for regular unleaded. Like N80 stated, what is the big deal about 6 bucks a tank? If your worried about that maybe you shouldnt have bought a G. :/

With your math and 40 cent hike.
20 gallon tank at 25 mpg (average) and filling up 12 times
20x12x25 = 6,000 miles a month.
I fill 12 times per month on average. Admittedly not from empty, more like from 1/4 tank, but by the same token I sure don't get 25 mpg.

As for the big shots touting premium . . . when the manual recommends regular, when the temps are cold and the roads are slippery, when I never exceed 3K rpm in this season except on rare freeway occasions, well, again I say, you would not exactly be smart in filling with premium, now would you?

Holy ****, I maybe fill 4 times a month, a tank lasts me a whole week. That's with 90% city driving (10% highway to see girlfriend) and that is with near 400rwhp twin turbo, and I don't baby her.

How can you possibly fill up 12 times a month? You realize in a 30 day month, that means every 2-3 days you fill up. I call BS

5AT Sedans don't need premium. Running premium on a car that does not REQUIRE it is a waste of money.

All Coupes and MT Sedans REQUIRES premium.

Exactly.

I posted a scan of the manual in the very beginning. People should read it. It clearly states 5AT Sedan can run Regular. All other requires Premium.
