Jiffy Lube stealing my money?

As you know by now it's a mistake to visit Jiffy Lube since they're proved to be dishonest! I seriously wouldn't put Penzoil in my Honda (lawnmower) but that's my OCD kicking in. You can buy quality synthetic like Mobil1 from Costco and good filters like WIX at most auto parts stores. Then find an independent shop that will change it for you, this way you know what's in your G and feel comfortable about running it for 5K miles....Gary

A mechanic, or the dealer. I had friends that worked for quick lube type places. I could tell you some wild stories about those places. Cutting corners doesn't even begin to describe it.
Why won't your dad let you change you own oil? Fear of ruining your car? Are you able to do it? Or is it something that is just beneath you?

Buy the proper tools, jacks and jack stands and follow the proper procedure for jacking up your G.
The rest is cake, your dad thinks the car will fall on you. So don't skimp out on the jacks or jack stands. Always jack on a flat surface so the car can't roll.
Jack stands 50 for 4 and 100$ for a jack. Costco sells one which is an amazing value.
Run your current oil for 5k miles and just make sure to check oil level

Dont worry about the trolls on here dude. Im a young driver myself and I know some of the conditions that parents have with letting their kids own nice type cars.
Now, I don't think that they are literally stealing your money, but no you do not need to get your oil changed every 3k miles, synthetic or no synthetic. Of course the way you drive should greatly be taken into consideration the amount of miles between oil changes. If you drive your car hard with frequent red line trips and tire chirps, with a non-synthetic motor oil, I would get ready to change the oil at or around 5k miles, though frequently checking the oil every few days. As for synthetic, the same story, though you may find yourself still having clean(ish) looking oil after 6-7k miles. I would change my synthetic oil around 7500 miles.
Also I am not suggesting running any oil but synthetic in your car, but what I wrote about can be used for any car, really.
If you continue to keep going to Jiffy, or even if you bring your car to any shop, just tell the guy doing your oil change to write your preference on the little window sticker, weather its every 5k, 7.5k, etc.
