i could be giving it 5% throttle and I'd still reach 4500.

Girlfriends mother went yesterday to get an oil change. They told her that since she does highway driving in her Grand Prix GT that she needs to use Max Life High Mileage oil, then they told her that the oil coming out of her engine was pretty black, so they were going to do an engine flush for her...

This "engine flush" cost her over $40...From the reciept I can't even tell what they did. I asked her if they gave her instructions to bring the car back after a couple hundred km to have the oil changed, and she said no. Basically it looks like they dumped in a $6 bottle of engine treatment and sent her on her way...if they even did that...

Her oil change and flush ended up costing her over $120....SMH

The sad part is, she said the old guy in the waiting area with her was asked if he wanted it done too, and he said "yeah, same as last time" which means its probably a bigger rip off than I know.

Jiffy Lube is definitely getting the rap they deserve here... but talk about betraying the public trust. And what's worse is that the people who are actually DOING the ripping off likely get no benefit out of it other than being able to keep their job by meeting certain quotas. Best way to ensure you get the service you want is to put a sticker under your hood that says "Smile, you're on camera" even if you had no camera at all.

Deterrence... it worked during the cold war and it can work in this situation.

I had a friend whose dad wouldn't let him touch absolutely a single thing under the hood. He had a squealing belt one day, so I came over to tighten it. His dad came home from work and yelled at me as I was underneath his 86 PORSCHE telling me that now I'll have to pay to have his mechanic fix what I've done. I wiped off my hands and turned it over with no squealing. Sometimes you've gotta take matters into your own hands.

Unfortunately it's buyer beware- except the buyers they're ripping off the most are people who fundamentally can't expect exactly how treacherous the business has become... Often the very young or the elderly.
