I'll do the oil change on my benz myself as well. Well...part of that is because their Service B package is $400. BTW....never refer to the Service B package as a glorified oil change to a service manager. They don't really like that.
My dealer is quick. Im in and out of there in 30 minutes. My roommate changes his oil and theres jugs of it sitting around never getting recycled... just seems like more of a PITA. Did it once on my 05 and said enough is enough after it took me 20 minutes just to undo all the damn screws holding on that stupid splash guard. lol I like having all my service documented in the infiniti system to. Seems to make them worth a bit more when it comes time to sell it.

Always going to be a battle between the DIY guys and the non DIY guys haha

When your car sits an inch off the ground, changing your oil is a little more complex then just jacking it up. I'd love to see someone change the oil on my car in under 15 minutes. Keep in mind a jack won't clear until you run over a double stacked piece of 2x4. But before you even do that, you need to run over a single stack of 2x4. Essentially driving over a makeshift staircase just to fit a jack underneath. And having done this on both of my cars, I can tell you no matter how many times you do it, it's still not a quick process.

As for oil changes for $25. I buy Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil, as well as a filter and I can tell you it does not cost me only $25.

Exactly, my thoughts on doing my own oil change vs going somewhere else depends on the car.

People have differing conditions and reasons for not doing it themselves. If my car was a lifted truck, I would change that oil in like 10 minutes, don't even need to jack it up.

But until then, a shop will be changing my oil.

I think my problem is that I am just way too paranoid about my car. It is far too expensive of equipment to me. I'v changed my oil, but im always worried I did something wrong or it isn't circulated or some **** and if the engine goes boom, im stuck with an expensive engine to replace. I just enjoy the peace of mind that the work and car is warrantied and will be taken care of if something happens. It is an easy job yea, but it is also what keeps the engine ticking lol. For the extra 5-10 bucks It just calms me knowing it is someone else's fault if it blows or something haha.

My friend built a nice little ramp system for his Civic SiR out of some old diamond plate and 1/4" steel he salavaged.

He was taking his car to a shop until his front bumper was half ripped off on the drive on style of lifts (it was too low for regular arm lifts).

My shop isn't run by morons and would never even think of driving a low car directly onto a lift.

I hope your friend slapped everyone in that shop.

No, but there was a huge fight over who should pay for the damages. I think he lost and ended up paying for it out of pocket though.

His problem with those is his side skirts are WAY too low. If I remember correctly, they're Black Widow side skirts and probably have 2" of clearance on a good day.

Does your car still have the plastic trim at the bottom of the doors, or were they removed? Sometimes they get damaged and people just remove them which will make a little gap between the door and the side skirt.
