Thoughts on the new 335I BMW?
I just test drove the 335 coupe 6speed here in SB today while I was waiting on my oil change next door. The car is sick, enough said. Fast, smooth, silky. It feels a LOT lighter than the G, even though its a tad heavier. The exhaust sound is nice, not quite the G, but its nice. Yeah, its a bit more expensive, but it feels like a great car. I couldn't get over how smooth the tranny was compared to the G. Dealer said a hard top convertible is due out by Christmas.
Don't flame me, I'm keeping my G. But I am man enough to give props to another sick car when I see/drive one... even if it is a bimmer.

glad to see some of you guys are open minded
i come from the bmw world, 06 325i and my take is this (obviously my opinions are biased)
as far as looks go: well thats mostly subjective, so not much to say on that. execpt that the old 325/330 sedan vs coupe was basically a sedan with its doors cut off. but the new coupe is significantly different in design then the sedan. if you can't see that, then i don't follow your logic at all. (maybe this will help your judgement http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28685)
in my opinion, its a classy coupe. not the sportiest coupe made, a tad big and comfortable for a sport coupe. i have sat in it, and find it extremlly comfortable and roomy. i like my e90 better as far as looks go, i just wish my car was wider.
performance:
well as has already been discussed, the 335 will probably blow away the g35 sedan, and is no surprise. the 335 will compete with next g35 coupe or car that will replace it, and the new 328 will be the g35 sedan's competitor. (just like how you guys compare your coupes to the 330, and the sedan to the 325.... well you guys mostly think the 325 is a waste of time, but the 330i is a bit faster then the g35sedan.)
the bottomline is that bmw is about continuity and smoothness. their cars shift smooth, are comfortable ( imo), handle smoothly, and rev very smoothly (power band much wider then the VQ's. dynos show this).
i have not driven the new 335, but i have a feeling its handling will be smooth, along with its shifitng, and the new FI engine. from 335 reviews, it seems turbo lag is almost eliminted, due to the fact that twin turbos reduce lag obviously, and that each turbo is dedicated to 3 cylinders, parallel turbo instead of higher power sequential turbo.
will it be better then the new g35 coupe or replacement of it? well obivouly nobody knows, but this BMW being FI makes this a tuner's dream. now the hard to tune bimmers are gonna be turned into monsters (already evo tech has a new chip belive it or not http://www.dynocomp.com/bmw.php?view=bmw)
if infiniti decided to stick with NA, there should be interesting competition. but its obvious the new G will have a ****load of power (possibly mid 300?)
infiniti has always had more HP and in fact the new G stock maybe more powerful then the 335, and will beat it in a straight line (new G is faster then 330i in a straight line hands down).
BMW is about efficieny, big HP isn't a big concern to them, its only there to compete with its japanese competitors in the U.S. only in the US do you see base 3 series models with 3 Liters engines with over 200 HP. in europe they all have 2.5 liter high 100 bhp engines. and they also have a choice of turbo-diesel engine or petrol. which bring up another points, since bmw is bringing back FI, which they haven;t used since the 70's in america, means they must have perfected its efficieny of non diesel FI engine.
overall i think the competition b/w infiniti and BMW will be much closer now that more options are around. plus the new GTR coming to the US? i mean come on, what could be better then (assuming its true) a AWD twin turbo skyline vs. NA RWD M3. ****ing awesome battle b/w these cars.

The new 335i Coupe seems like it's going to be a really good car. IMO, the previous generation's (E46) looks were hotter for its time. Performance is going to be kickass, I'll only trust BMW's 0-60 time though. On the streets, the BMW should be real fast with all that low-end torque from the bi-turbo setup and the E90 3-Series Sedans have already proven themselves in handling, braking, luxury, technology, etc.
