Haha VQ35 you been practicing already i see? But yea in order to get to the actual shifter you have to first remove the center console. https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-diy/90507-diy-06-hu-removall.html This is the link I was given when I first inquired about removing the console. Just look at the pics and it explains itself. Once you can remove the center console part then you have easy access to the shifter rod where you can clamp on the wrench. But yea you may think you are gonna snap something in your car because it does require a lil force to get the console off, etc, etc. But trust it won't damage anything.

What's the trick to removing the shift rod from the plastic cup without breaking it? I don't have mine apart yet to look at it and give it some strategic thought.

thanks.

Hahaha yea that was the trickiest part man! I too had to use some brain over brawn and this is what I did. I used some more grease and just coated the hell outta the ball and inside cup so it would be able to slide out easier. Then i ended up using two small lap tables I had and placed them side by side, so that the pivot cup sides would sit on the edge of each table. The tables should hold the pivot cup with the now free dangling stock shifter in the middle. Then i put my foot on top of the linkage (hollow ball thing at the opposite end of the grip) and slowly asserted pressure downwards. The pivot cup is being pushed against on either side of the tables so that acts as a brace, and my weight slowly being pushed down onto the actual shifter popped it right out of the cup BINGO! The extra grease I put in there helped to make sure it didn't abruptly shoot out, thus snapping the little edge clips on the inside of the cup. Then the new shifter from RE just popped right in with a little forearm muscle. That way my method, although I don't know what condition your stock shifters are in. I only have 4800 or so miles on my car cause I just bought it a month or so ago. But I guess just slop on a bit more grease and wiggle it around the ball pivot. Then just be sure to SLOWLY apply more downward force to get it to pop out...not just drop kicking it like it owed you money!

That's excellent! I was tinking of doing the same basic thing, but resting the cup on either side of an open vise and pushing the shifter out from the bottom, just upside down. Based on the pics I've seen, this seemed logical. I'll have to keep the slow force method in mind. I was debating giving it a whack with a 5 lb sledge. I guess that is out!

Thanks again.

Yea that method would work fine using the open vice. I just didn't happen to have access to one when I did mine so I had to improvise! haha But yea def keep in mind the slow force method....sledge hammering it would prob not produce good results lol.

Just read the previous posts man! RE is the only way to go! Seeing how I just put mine in a week ago I can attest that it was the only right choice! I just went from stock to RE and its a world of difference. Ive seen more iffy comments bout the B&M over the RE when searching this forum. And the only iffy comments i've read about the RE is that it rattles. But the only reason it rattles is cause people don't tighten the **** down all the way so the little metal chafer piece clinks around with transmission vibration! But if you install it properly I will assure you there is NO rattle whatsoever and practically little to ZERO vibration with the RE shifter.
