Reset ECU?
Reset ECU?
A lot of you folks have reset your ecu after the break-in period on your coupe. How do you do this? Will dealer reset for me? What did it cost? Does it really enhance performance with the 5A? I am at about 1900 miles. Thanks
Re: Reset ECU?
no need to go to dealer... easiest way is to disconnect the battery for at least 5hours(i did 5hours and it did resetted.. any1 done less and worked?)... it's easy as that... and AT tranny is the one will get most benefit from reset ECU due to stupid adaptive transmission... from my experience, after reset, i felt like i've been driven with only 80% of power b4... get ready to say hello to your lost 20% power...

Re: Reset ECU?
Here's a link to the ECU resets in our DIY forum that Antrock mentioned: ECU Resets.
I should point out that the Nissan service manual recommends 24 hrs battery disconnect. I personally do a 12 hr disconnect. Some of our members do a shorter one and say it works too.

Re: Reset ECU?
What is the purpose of the ECU reset? Is it to gain more performance? How? Does it improve or decrease gas mileage?
Thanks.

Re: Reset ECU?
Bigsmasher, It's never too late to reset the ECU. Having waited so long, you may notice quite a difference in performance when you do the reset.
As far as which method to use, I don't think it matters. It seems they both work equally well. My personal preference is the quick method, but it's timing is difficult to master.

Re: Reset ECU?
by your sing i assuming that you have 6MT... 6MT usually don't get as much power by resetting ECU than AT.. but i heard you still feel little better in performance... ECU reset to gain performance is really for AT drivers bcuz of adaptive tranny...(exclusive reset after you put new mod on)
Re: Reset ECU?
Thanks for DYI link. Once reset do you need to drive aggressively for it to "adapt?" Or is the power just there when you need/want it? On my bimmer the adaptive transmission read the way you were driving at that moment and adjusted to that style of driving. You guys seem to be saying to expect a power increase.

Re: Reset ECU?
I believe that once the ECU is reset, it then adapts again quickly to your driving style. In other words if you don't drive aggressively all the time, you'll need to do a reset periodicly to get the crisp shifts back.
I don't drive a lot, and not always very aggressively, so I reset every 2 to 3 weeks.
My guess is that if you went out and drove aggressively for an hour or so, the ECU would learn that style too and resetting the ECU would be unnecessary.

Re: Reset ECU?
Do you need to do all procedures including Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning , Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning , Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning) , or just the first part?? Sorry I don't know much about this stuff..
Thanks for your help!!
