6MT Smells in the snow.....
After a brief ride in the snow with the 6mt coupe and the VDC kicking in every second I knoticed a slight burning smell. Is this the brakes or is the traction control doing something to the tranny? It almost smelt like burnt clutch but I couldn't really tell. Anyone else notice this or know what it is?

That smell is the clutch and brakes wearing out fast. The harder you drive, the harder those systems work to stop you.
Turning the systems off is not the answer tho, since they'll save your butt in many situations.
The answer is to have snow tires and drive slower to prevent the systems from activating.... Using a higher gear in the 6MT, or more gentle use of the throttle in the A/T will help.
In the rare cases where you get stuck, turn the VDC off only to help you get unstuck.. then be sure to turn it back on.
These rides (the original Coupe and Sedan) aren't the best in our winters, hence the 'Sedan X' version .
I'll bet the 'Coupe X' isn't too far off.

Re: 6MT Smells in the snow.....
I can understand the brakes, kind of, I mean how would they be wearing out if they're just being used. It's not even under hard braking. And as for the clutch does this mean that it is engaging and disengaging over and over when the car slips? The VDC is great and keeps the car in line but at what price? My clutch isn't worth it thats for sure. It's not that big of a deal I suppose cause I already gave up driving the thing in the snow but still that just doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure where you live, but I've been running pilots since i got my car. They have been fine in all this cold weather, though we haven't had more than a trace of snow.... No smell here, I'll keep you informed!

Re: 6MT Smells in the snow.....
Strange, I have exactly the same thing going on w/my car. No snow here but cold (30's). Mine appears to have started right after I had my oil and transmission fluid changed by my dealer. At first I assumed it was spilled fluid burning off as it was strong the first day and got weaker over time. But at this point I would expect it to have gone away....
