bogs out at about 6.5grand
bogs out at about 6.5grand
so im working a new gto by a country mile but as i hit at or almost 6.5 grand somewhere around there just before shifting, it boged out from 2nd to third then again from 3rd to 4th. anyone else experience this? is this some kind of safety feature? please tell me it is. its not the head gaskets or anything like that cause it seems to be running fine. btw those new gto are slowwww. thanks

technosquare can raise your rev limiter to 7200 RPM for $595.
You would want to do this only after you have added other performance mods. They can change other settings to help increase performance as well.

The Rev limiter is there to protect you from Valve Float. Helps you from damaging your engine..

...sorry to go off topic from the rev limiter, but I agree with what was just said: the new GTO ain't no slouch -- it's got the (non-Z06) vette's 5.7L LS1 V8, good for 350hp. Even though the GTO with that big V8 is a couple of hundred pounds heavier than the G, you can't ignore that 70 hp advantage that raw displacement gives.
I think for stock cars with equal driver's the GTO should actually have the slight edge over our G (Pontiac claims 0-60 in 5.3s)
Mind you, that's in a straight line...
If we're talking cornering, lap times on a road course etc. then you're right, the lighter G should take the GTO with it's far superior handling, balance etc.
...and in a beauty contest... heh, well that's no contest ;-)

its not THE REVVV LIMITER FELLAS......
when you are rowing between the gears, (1-2 and 2-3 respectively) you are actually breaking traction w/ the road (due to the snappy 6mt!!)... the "big brother" vdc senses this, and applies a breaking force---albeit brief and minimal-- which creates a bit of a bog...
it sucks, and even WITH VDC OFF, it STILL limits the performance..... i am trying to confirm this, and consequently find out how/where a disable is possible........ (no me gusta big brother)
until then, i am gonna use the VDC OFF module from our good friends at KP Technologies!!

**ps** the new gto is no joke (not including the style however) and has some serious grunt....(since itsa v8)

Re: bogs out at about 6.5grand
I just experienced what you just described this morning. Launching from a dead stop, as I was shifting from first to second, the engine lost its power. I also saw the SLIP light come on in the dashboard.
Re: bogs out at about 6.5grand
I thought the rev limit was set at 6600? My car is a 5at and when using the manual mode I lose power right at 6600 with VDC off. The other night I hit it and it felt like my tranny smacked the bottom of the car.

Re: bogs out at about 6.5grand
First of all, for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, it's probably due to VDC. When you take 1st or 2nd gear to redline and then upshift and let the clutch out, the rear wheels "chirp". VDC detects the slippage and kills the engine power for a few seconds. But there is no wheel slippage when shifting from 3-4 at redline, so I'm curious as to why the car would "bog down" for that shift. It could be the G's rev limiter...usually, the way the rev limiter works is that if you hit the rev limit (6,600rpm on this car), it will cut the engine down a couple hundred rpm's. Except, I have never experienced the rev limiter kicking in on my car. I can go a little bit into the red with my G and I don't experience any rev limiter kicking in...but then again, I shift right there so maybe it's because I don't let the engine hang there for the rev limiter to kick in.
And yeah, the new GTO isn't slow, it's a 350hp V8.
