I owned a 03 SMG Vert m3 before i owned a 04 6spd G... stock for stock the M is obviously better.. It overall is a much more expensive car.. there are CERTAINLY upsides to the G though. Maintence being a large #1.. its not nearly as finicky as the M, you don't have to use castrol 10w-60 for oil, and parts aren't nearly as expensive. They both look great... thats just a matter of prefernce.. I slightly prefer the rounded look of the G vs the more squared off M. I'd say do it if your just looking for a fun change and to save a few grand.. You obviously know your buying a machine that doesn't quite match performance potential in any aspect though..
Hope this helped.
Dan-

I don't see any reason to spend money on a sideways move at best or even a possible downgrade. At the very least, you'd have to get a G37 or something.

If I were going to downgrade from an M3, it'd probably be to a 135i...though the G is sooo sexy, which is why I went from an Evo IX to it.

My $0.02

My friends think I am crazy about even thinking about a g35 from my m3 but I love the look of the g35. I know the performance on my m3 is very nice to have. how does the g compare?
keep the M3 ;]

This made my day, esp coming from a m3 driver.

Remember tax! you might not be saving that much in the end.

I think I would take the e46 m3 over a g35 in virtually every aspect of judging a car besides maintenance costs.

Have you thought about putting money in, to get a 335?

If the m3 is in a nice condition and there are no major problems with it than keep it. It is much superior ride than the g35. If you can't afford to keep the m3 than certaintly a g would be a good downgrade and a certain upgrade in saved funds.

335's are beasts, drop an intake, exhaust, dyno tune it and, you're at 398 rwd hp. Frigging rocket, definitely my next car when they come out with a new model. For now, I looovve my G.

thanks for the info everyone, I think I will stick with the m3 for sure. Nothing wrong with the car so far in great shape with 62k miles on her. No issues with the car what so ever.
