I don't think you can get a ticket because a G says Skyline on it. What if you put Ferrari badges everywhere on the car, do you think it matters? Badging (or lack thereof) is just a form of modding/decoration. If he pulls up the VIN he'll see that it matches the registration.

Funny you mention that. I remember about 10 years ago, about a guy here. (I saw on the news, don't remember if it was local or national)

He had a honda accord. He bought a body kit and badging and made it look like a BMW 3 series. He got pulled over, and the police got backup, and had their guns drawn, and got the guy face down on the ground. They ran his plates, and when it said Honda Accord, they thought it was a professional thief with stolen plates. When they ran the VIN, and discovered it really was a honda accord, they apologized to the guy. If I remember correctly, he tried suing the police, but he lost because the police did everything by the book.

I can't blame them. When I was in high school, I was in a somewhat similar situation. There was a murder at a nearby hospital. I got pulled over in front of my High School, with full guns drawn as well. It was because the get-away car matched my Chevelle to a tee. After they saw I didn't match the description of the suspect, they apologized to me. I was chatting with them, and they said that they already ran the DMV records, and showed that there were only like 14 or so Chevelle's registered in the metro area at the time, and only 3 of them were blue. They told me I should consider not driving this car for a few days until things blew over, to prevent another mistake by another police department. When I told my dad, he wouldn't let me drive for a week.

 

I have not heard of any of the Mercedes guys having problems with their rebadged Chryslers.

thats why they make VIN numbers and thats why your VIN number is on your insurance papers and car deed and registration and all that jazz....

Someone put a Skyline GT badge on their G??

That's almost as bad as the Altima 350 GT I saw the other day.

 

My daily driver is a 92 Corrado VR6 debadged, bodykit etc. Funny thing is when I get parking tickets and the few speeding tickets I have gotten they always write down the make and model as a black jetta or gti despite. Never had any problem witht he cops. I don't think its something too serious to worry about, on par wioth the front license plate issue.
