Untint tails?
Untint tails?
Is there anyway to untint tail lights? I am looking to buy a coupe and it has to items tail lights and they are frowned upon in my state. Just wondering if there was a way to remove it?
yes you can remove tinted tails. Its a big pain in the butt. You can try getting a heat gun and lightly heat the tint and if your lucky you can just pull if off.
If not, you basically need windex or any cleaner with heavy amount of ammonia and a old credit card and scrape it off.
Problem is the tint retains the heat, so if its been sitting out in the sun for a awhile, it' can make micro fractures in the plastic of the tails.
This is assuming there tinted oem tails. If there tinted aftermarket tails then no since there already smoked like that.

If the tint is film it will rip right off.
If its tint spray use gasoline and a towel to scrub with. It won't be easy but it comes out i did mine and they look great untinted again! Gasoline cleans the lens very well too.

Removing tint is so easy a cave man could do it!
Squirt bottle and a few rags, find a corner and peel off. You may need Googone to remove the sticky and then a cleaner wax will finish the job. Tails should look like new....Gary

Thanks everyone for your input, I was able to go for a test drive yesterday and noticed that the tail lights have been tinted with a film. Now I know what I need to do to fix it. Thanks again.
Untinted tails...done!
Thanks everyone for your help. As much as I liked the look, I didn't want to be harrassed by the police. Thought I would post an after pic.
