Power Steering problem?? Help!
I drive a 2004 G35 Coupe and I live in georgia where it's gotten cold temperatures and I have a problem with my car. When I'm driving when it's cold my wheels are making a loud squaking/whinning noise and it never happened in the summer. sometimes it sounds i have a flat tire but I don't. It gets pretty loud at 2nd gear especially when I turn left or right. I checked my power steering fluid and it's nearly full. I feel like it might be a bad pump or hose? I'm not sure but I need help
It started on both front wheels all of a sudden about 3 weeks ago. but the sound comes and goes. sometimes i'll drive it for a 4 days and won't hear anything but it just will come back starting randomly but tonight was bad
Next time it happens spray a little water on your pulleys, see if that changes the sound. Bad bearings (like on a P/S pump) will typically go bad and stay bad; however belts can squeak on and off based on temperature, humidity, and/or tightness.
My belt used to squeak in the cold, since it was older I just kept reapplying WD-40 (this swells the belt making lubrication necessary from then on) every time it started to squeak until I replaced it.
