Does purchasing positive/negative terminal ends matter?
Does purchasing positive/negative terminal ends matter?
I noticed my terminals were corroding and causing the car to have difficulty starting on cold starts. I was looking to replace both terminals (positive and negative) in hopes of fixing the issue. I looked on Rockauto, however, they only provide positive terminals with no sign of negative terminals. I looked on Infiniti Parts and they don't specify positive/negative for the terminala. I'm assuming the terminals just conduct and bridge the electricity from the electrical system to the battery. That leads me to the question, does it matter if the terminals is listed as positive/negative? Can I purchase the positive terminal from RockAuto and use it for the negative terminal on my battery? If it does matter, is there a link to a negative terminal? Thanks for the help!
Usually people just clean their terminals with a wire brush and some type of cleaner. As long as its not worn out to the point of being loose, then u should be able to clean it and reuse it. U can also slather some dielectric grease or vaseline over the whole thing so it prevents it from corroding again.
But no, theres no difference between positive and negative terminals. All they do is just conduct electricity.

Lead battery terminals are universal and the same terminal will work for either the positive or negative battery post. Just make sure they fit properly or you'll result in a dead battery. I would get the voltage tested as well and anything under 14volts, get a new one with higher CCA if you're in a colder environment- 30F or colder.
