I'm with ya man!!! I jsut got a 06 6mt too, **** is slow as ****!! I had a evo that ran 11.9 6 weeks ago!!! i'm doing the greddy kit ASAP, maybe 400whp will satisfy my needs...

It will still feel awful slow compared to a 11.9 evo.

My last car was a heavily modded 240sx, and i can tell you that I would drive my car then drive an NA car that was just as fast and the 240 felt faster hands down because of the FI Powerband. I run 14.1 all day in my coupe and it sure doesnt feel like a 14.1 car, it feels much slower. The smoother NA powerband is really deceiving at times.

400whp g35 would run 11.9 with a 1.7 60ft. the problem is i'd prob pull a 2.1 60ft and run a mid-high 12. It will def feel as fast because it will haul *** from a roll. Its the traction issue

Of course the redeeming quality for the G is the durability of the engine. If you check out the Rennlist.com site for 996 Porsches and do a search on engine replacements, you'll see a ton of posts. Just on that one forum, they have around 90 guys who have had their engines replaced and in the vast majority of cases the engines had fewer than 30K miles when replaced. Also, keep in mind that the $40K sticker on well equipped Gs is chump change when you are buying Porsches.

So the G isn't anywhere near as fast as a Porsche 996 or 997, but at least you don't have to worry about the engine blowing on a G.

So sell it fast and shut-up quicker....And, try using your 'spell check' while you're at it Einstein.

I think people need to remember that the G and Z arent that fast to begin with, Even if you magazine race the two cars there not that fast in any publication to date IMO.

Even I feel like my G doesnt even rip on the freeway like 280 hp should for instance my corrado slc when it ran LOL... seemed alittle quicker on the freeway then the g????

I think alot of folks who complain about speed need to realize we bought semi luxury cars that weigh 3400+ pounds.

To sum it up the 350z never impressed me in terms of speed so why would the luxury version that weighs more be fast at all?

BTW i love my g for what it is a pimp on wheels!

Hey, we've got great looking performance cars with very reliable engines, and to top it off they retain their value about as well as any other mass produced car. Life is good.

I have an 05' 6mt and gotta say that when I first bought it I thought it was a little slow. Honestly though, after break-in, it felt like it got faster every day. Coming from always having 5spds, the 6spd takes a little getting used to.

I'm not going to say that the G is the fastest car on the road but you would be hard pressed to find a car that can match it performance wise (for the price). Don't take the "learn how to drive" comments to heart. It takes a little time to learn the shift points/powerband of the G.

All this talk about the engine being crappy and weak is ridiculous! It (VQ) has been rated as one of the top 10 best engines in the world for about 12 years!

actually i still have the mr2 i dropped the engine out to have it rebuilt by ChrisK at engine logics in texas. there was nothing wrong with it and it had about 40k miles on it but i wanted a fully built motor to hadnle high HP and keep it a little more reliable. that is also why i purchased the G i wanted a reliable daily driver, the mr2 was too much of a risk to drive everyday here in jersey the state police had an eye out for my car. but after researching on the board here i think i will do a few basic mods to my G but it probably wont sstop there.

i did actually test drive the coupe not the one i purchased but two other ones that were on the lot , an 04 and a left over 05 , the salesman was a little strange and told me to keep the RPMs under 3k but the 04 seemed to be a little quicker

for all you guys saying the mr2 will max out at 280whp that is false, the stock 3sgte can handle 500+ HP on the stock internals and can also prodeuce 300whp on the stock fuel system. it has also been proven to make 450HP on un unopened motor with all stock internals with over 200,000 miles on the car and ran an 11.10 quarter mile with many mid to low 11 second runs. now rebuild that motor throw in some over size valves 272/264 cam combo a gt35r turbo ,upgrade your fuel system and get a good tune and see what you get . the 3sgte is an excellent platform

I've felt my car was slow too, slower than my previous car (2K2 Maxima SE 6MT with mods). After everytime I drive my GF's Scion tC, though, it feels fast again. It's all just relative, I think...

I will only chime in slightly here. I can only say that yes, the doesn't feel like it's going to burn rubber or anything but when I'm on the freeway and accelerate in 4th or 5th gear at about 60, I would look down and see 100 mph in no time and see notice all the cars that were next to me suddenly are WAY back there. Speed is relative so it doesn't feel like it hauls A$$ but it actually is.

Last word, I have to agree with most here about this being a luxury sports coupe. It isn't design for pure speed nor is it for pure luxury; It's just a nice balance between the two. It has speed and handling when you want/need it and can still be luxurious enough to impress if need be. So, enjoy your purchase or enjoy "another" purchase
