TPS Question......

Has anyone had a dealer disable there Tire Pressure Sensor system or reprogram something after putting on aftermarket wheels with no sensors? Or can this be done? When I ordered my new wheels I thought they put sensors in my new wheels but did not,did not know this till I recieved them on UPS. So now my light is on...... Factory wheels still mounted w/ TPS in them and my new wheels on my car with no sensors in them. Not sure what to do?

Take your car to a tire shop and have them remove the TPS from your old wheels and put them in the new ones.

Or buy a second set of TPS and have a shop install those.

When you install new TPS sensors, is there a need to program them to the car? I hope I'm asking the question correctly.

I think you might. Ask your dealer to be sure.

I used the ones out of my stock wheels since I hardly ever use them.

Yes you might have to get them reprogrammed at the Dealers if they don't work correctly. I checked at my dealer and they wanted $45 Canadian to do it.

Yes, they must be "married" to the reciever. Just take your old ones out and have a shop intall them. They will only need to break one bead and then re-balance them.

The service manager at my dealership told me that they routinely disable the TPS warning for customers when they install winter tires with no transmitters and then reactivate it for them in the spring when they swap back.

JKB32 - you may want to confirm that your aftermarket wheels will accept the TPS's...this has been asked a lot. It all depends on the make & model of the rim...most do, but not ALL. If they're the M45 rims in your sig..your chances are good.

I've heard mixed feedback on whether or not the TPS's have to be recalibrated to your car. Some say yes & some say no. I won't find out until next spring, when I put my Milano's back on my car after the winter (currently on my car w/ TPS's).

All I know is that we're putting the new covers on all our TPS reports...

Thanks for the info.... I have M45 wheels on the car now so i guess mine off my factory wheels "should" work. I have a call into the local service dept. so I guess I will wait and see what they say. And then decide what to do.....
