Looking to buy a G35X

Hey all, long time lurker here. I've bene researching a G35 coupe, but a new job that requires me to drive 25miles each way in potential snow has kinda steered me away from a Coupe or even a G35 sport.

So anyway, looking into G35X's...most likely a 2006 model.

Are there any common problems with this particular model to pay attention to when car shopping?? I would prefer to get one fully loaded with Navigation, but it seems most came without Nav?? Also, is there a shade of red for the X? I searched the gallery and can't seem to find one.

The rest of my questions apply to modifications since i would need to "tweak" the appearance slightly.

Will the sport's spoiler fit directly? How do most people put this spoiler on? Swap trunks? or is it s drill and bolt affair??

Brakes? Short of buying expensive brake kits, will the factory brembos from say the 350Z or G35 coupe bolt on?

Will the 19" Sport wheels also bolt on with no problems?

How is the G35x in the snow?? Does it drive decently? I'd more than likely toss some snow tires on the OEM wheels and look into buying the 19" wheels off the sport or some aftermarket wheels as my summer time wheels.

Sorry if most questions could be answered with a search, but i've been limited on the time i have to research a potential new vehicle.

Also, not that i plan on drag racing it, but what would a G35x run in the 1/4 mile?? Just trying to judge how quick it is for 280HP

Thanks

I will try to help you out without being a search ****:

I haven't heard of any problem specific to the X model. All G35s are fairly reliable. There were a few recalls, use InfinitiHelp.com to search for them. The only red color I know of for the sedan is Garnet Fire (darker red), but that is not specific to the X. Navi....I don't know about that. Should be some out there with the tech package.

The OEM spoiler will fit all G sedans. Mine came without one, I purchased an OEM replica with LED brake lamp that came painted (good color match too) from a seller on eBay for about $110 shipped. It bolts on, you have to drill 5 holes. The same OEM spoiler from a dealer will cost you $400+. You could also go with the M3 or IS350 style lip spoliers, which I don't think require drilling holes. Search the forum for tons of info on those lip spoilers.

Brembo brakes from 350Z/G coupe......I don't know. I think so, search for that one. I would think wheel clearance would be something to look into.

19-inch coupe wheels I have been told will bolt on fine without any modification. Even though they are staggered, if the tires have the same overall diameter there is no problem putting them on an X. I am planning on doing this to my '03 sedan.

I don't have an X, but from what I have read on the forum people are pretty happy with the X in snow. I think some put on snow tires though, like Blizzaks. Lots of FX owners who live in snowbelts have winter/summer wheel setups, so your idea is consistent.

I have no clue about the 1/4 mile times, might search for that.

Enjoy,
Steve

I have an X so far no problems but like gixxer said look at infinitihelp.com

As for coupe wheel, there are one guy that runs staggered with the fuse in but the other guys that have staggered dont. I am not staggered and might be getting 19 but I am going for 4 fronts since they are 19x8 and a decent offset. As for the snow, it hardly snows here in Wa but just this last year when it did, man once I got decent tires on there I had no problem going through the snow.

Thanks, i did some searching and found some of my answers, but not all.

I'm mainly concerned with snow performance as it's basically the only reason i am going with the G35X otherwise i would get a truck. I HATE driving trucks though. I'm not looking to drive through 2 foot snow drifts, but i want something that can drive on packed snow with confidence, especially with snow tires.

When i was talking about swapping wheels, i meant the ones off the 2006 6Mt sedan. They are very similar to the coupe wheels right? Arent they 19" as well? Those should be a direct swap right? I assume no suspension differences and braking differences between the AWD and RWD models??

1/4 mile time isn't all that vital to me. I'm buying this car as nice-looking transportation. I have my go-fast cars to play with. I just would like to drive something with a little pep.

Seems the Garnet Fire is pretty hard to find. What color interiors come with this color? Is it black only or is there a lighter shade as well? It might take me a while to find a GF G35x with Navi.

For mods, i was basically planning tint, adding the OEM spoiler, retrofitting (or purchasing) Brembo brakes and a set of wheels for the summer. That will probably be it because i know how expensive and how carried away you can get when it comes to modding cars.

Those wheels you are talking about are 18 inch. As for the snow, like I said I had no problem once I got new tires on in the snow. If you get snow tires, I dont think you will have any problems unless you dont know how to drive.

I might get beat down for saying this, but have you ever considered an FX with AWD? It's not a "truck" per se, and because it has the same genetics (engine, platform) as the G35/350Z, its basically a sportscar with a SUV body and higher clearance. And you can opt up for the 45 with the VK, which will give you the "pep" you are looking for. I know that many of the FXs come with the tech package, finding a used one is fairly easy.

I've driven nothing but RWD in the snow previously. I'm sure any AWD car would be much easier

Thanks for the suggestion, but the FX is still too much of an SUV for me. I just have no use for such a big vehicle. I'm 26 and single and have access to my fathers F350 if i ever need the space for pickup up something or towing my car trailer.

IMHO, other than a bit more weight and slightly less fuel mileage, there are only advantages to the G35X.
Handles very much like a base RWD G35. I find it a bit stiffer riding, could be due to a larger sway bar up front.
Day to day driving, the G35X is faster from a stop and on curves due to AWD, especially on wet roads.

Same exterior and interior aftermarket parts as standard G35.
There are less options for aftermarket brakes. Unless you race or want the look, there is really is no reason to upgrade the brake. The OEM brakes is sensitive and has excellent stopping distance. Up there with the best.

I just really wanted it for the looks mainly, with performance a welcome byproduct. Every car i've owned has gotten a brake upgrade. I'm just used to having 13"+ brakes and multi-piston calipers i guess.

Just a couple of notes. I owned a 05 G35X and ran the OEM 18" sedan wheels with the 235/45/18 summer performance tires for summer and they worked and looked great. In the winter a ran a set of dedicated snows on another set of rims and the car performed awesome in the snow and ice and I live in an area that gets hit hard with lots of snow. You will not be disappointed.
I now own an 07 X.

Thanks everyone.

One final question? Does the G35x come with a spoiler at all? Was it an option or will i need to add that on any x i purchase??

Also, front lip? I keep reading about the OEM lip. What models did these come from and what years??

I basically want the appearance of a 6MT, but in the practical package of the X. I'm disappointed i can't get the AWD model with a 6-spd, but i'll still own one gear-banging vehicle to race.

Mustang5L5,

Im on the same hunt. Im in love with the G35/37 and hoped they came in AWD since I go up to Tahoe (CA/NV) a lot. I found the G35X and have been looking into those. Too bad there couldnt be a mix between a Coupe and an X right?! How about a M6, 2 door (even though a 4-door is fine) AWD!

oh yea, i guess that might be the new GT-Rs right? too bad I dont have 80K!

I have an 04 G35X. You dont even need snow tires. I run All seasons from the dealer and it plows through everything. Honestly, i only go it stuck once and that was turning around in a unplowed park parking lot in about 2 feet of icey snow lol Had to have a Toyota Tacoma tow me out haha

Im sure wheels will fit and whatnot. Breaks are damn nice on these things. just paint them if you want the appearance.
