Ok, now back to the OP problem....
Rimlas, if I understand correctly, you're saying you only had the rear tires replaced, and they went back with a different size from the front... right?
If so, that's not good for the AWD system. On a RWD car, it's not a problem, but an AWD needs the OVERALL DIAMETER of the front and back tires to be very close to the same, which the two sizes you mentioned are somewhat close, they may not be close enough.
I'll wait for an AWD expert to post up how close the front and rear diameter should be, as I don't personally know.

The only way to cover gap is to drop the car. You could run grossly oversized tires, but there are too many other problems with that.

If you can, take those tires back and get the proper size. The stock 215/55-17 is pretty wimpy, but a 235/50-17 not only looks much better, it also matches the stock diameter of 26.3".
