Random Little Question Thread
That bumper etc. is the coveted Nismo package, which includes side skirts, btw...SCORE!!! Negotiate hard (price seems quite high for an 04), but if CF comes back clean, especially with those low miles, buy that car. And don't mention the bumper/rear lip/side skirts...the seller may not know its value.
There is no way I would buy an '05-'06 with more mileage over that car.
Edmunds TMV for that car in my zip code:
Dealer Retail clean condition 14.5K,
Dealer Retail outstanding 15.5K
As mentioned above, the nismo aero package is rare and valuable. Don't volunteer that you know that and if they mention it just act as if it doesn't matter to you.
KBB is always too high, as a buyer I refer to Edmunds. Depending on condition of the car (and the importance of low miles and nismo to you) I'd offer 13K to 14K. That's assuming a clean carfax and checked out to your satisfaction by your mechanic.
You can find 03-04 with higher miles for less than 10K. I paid under 10K, which was almost 4K less than the original asking price for my 04x when I bought 6 months ago.

Thanks guys.
Was definately planning on using the vehicle age as a bargaining chip. The "good condition" TMV is exactly $15,000 on this car in my zip ($1,000 deduction). Hoping I can pick it apart some with some minor tire tread wear or any scratches/swirls that I can polish out. If I can nitpick the condition a little, I think I might open around $14K. I think $13K might be too insulting and they wouldn't even bother counteroffering.
I did see another 2004 G35 Sedan in our area that had the same aero package, but it had 140K miles. I doubt (knock on wood) that this dealership knows anything about it.

Also, you'd be hard pressed to find any first gens with less than 37K anymore so the model year doesn't make too much of a difference. Other than a nicer console/gauges, what advantage does an '05-'06 have over this particular car?
an 05 could still have the tail end of its powertrain warranty left and an 06 you could get certified
also 05-06s(rwd ones anyway) have larger, better brakes then 03-04s, nicer wheels, a stock bumper that looks almost the same as the nismo kit anyway, better grill, better head and taillights
also I hardly think an extra 10-20k is going to make a huge difference in the ownership experience.
idk with 07s dropping into the low 20s i can't see buying a first gen for more then 16 or 17k anyway

The warranty is something that some people like to have (I have CPO and Elite), but you definitely pay for it. If he could pick-up that '04 for the right price it would offset nearly any advantage a newer model would give him. In my opinion, 37K is nearly new for one of these cars.
I do agree that it is currently priced too high though. I paid $19K for an '05X with 38K and covered by CPO/Elite extended warranty almost two years ago. Even that was a ripoff compared to some of the crazy deals I've heard about people on this site getting.
you dont pay extra for a car that still has factory warranty left
my 04 still had 3k and a few months of powertrain left when i got it last year, so an 06 that was built say in jan 06 with 50k on it would still have 2 years and 20k of powertain left and the certified ones are covered to 100k, you don't necessarily pay extra for certified, sometimes it is built into the price

Anyway, it's just my personal opinion that any first gen sedan with a full Nismo kit and only 37K is worth seriously considering. If the price is knocked down a bit that would be a very nice pick-up.
check the build date or VIN of the 04 to determine if it's 04.5 - there are some half year changes that are as significant (if not more) than the Nismo kit... it will never be advertised that way because most consumers arent aware that 04.5 had changes (even the FSM is different between 04 and 04.5)...
^Excellent point Mike. I don't remember, what was the date they switched from 04 to 04.5?
Also, I'm not bothering to scroll up and look who said it, but the 05/06 oem bumper looks nowhere NEAR as good as the Nismo.
If it did, why would HikkataDori have went through the trouble of building a Nismo replica special to fit the 05/06... and why else would several 05/06 drivers have been willing to pony up the money to switch over?
