Random little question: I am trying to purchase a new 2006 G35x sedan. Took it to my mechanic and he said it has a problem in the exhaust system where the exhaust meets the muffler apparently it has leaking/wear I'm not completely sure. Long story short would this exhaust (Megan OE-RS catback) work on my car without having to get a new Y-pipe/other exhaust parts? The Y pipe is in good shape.

Thanks in advance

Are they necessary? Will my exhaust sound shitty if I don't have them? I'm on a pretty tight budget. I figured if I need to replace part of the exhaust may as well get a catback system now especially at that price.

No, but it allows for a "better flow". I had the ztube on but prefer stock.

The rest of my exhaust system is fine/stock, for now.

Besides wanting better flow, I should be fine using that system with all other stock parts though?

Get the iso thermal gasket that goes between the lower intake premium and the motor. The coolant bypass isn't necessary, but the gasket should help lower intake temps quite a bit.

I do them all the time.. as long as you have an 04 or newer it works out great. You leave a couple HP on the table vs a dyno tune, but its a lot cheaper
