Test driving the 5AT Sedan and realizing the torque this engine puts out at low rpm made me think it would be able to turn the tires over pretty good with the VDC off. After buying the car and driving it a couple of weeks I have found out otherwise. Is my car sluggish or is everyone else experiencing this same thing? I'm guessing that if I were to turn the wheel and accellerate hard from a standstill it would break the tires loose, but I would have expected it in a straight line from a stop as well. Curious what others have found...

On the 5at loaners I have had I noticed bit of lag when you punch it from the start. I think it's normal. if you wanted to roast the tires, you should have bought a 6MT. Those will spin the tires all the way until you worry about the replacement cost.
Not sure what you mean by torque braking. If you mean power braking where you hold your foot on the brake and rev the engine up against the brake, no I am not doing that - just punching the gas.

Yes, there is a 1st gear lag in the 5ATs and it is very deterimental to the overall performance of the car. It's clearly Nissan's way of keeping the G35 off the heals of the 350Z 5AT. The 350Z 5AT owners report absolutely no bog on launch and their average 60 foot times show it. They consistently get low 2.0s with just barely an 1800rpm powerbrake. The average 5AT G 60 foot is a mid 2.2. The 5AT 350 auto only makes about 7whp more the G sedan and weighs only 110lbs less. Those small difference aren't going to make a huge deal in the first 60'. That .2+ seconds 60 foot difference is costing the 5AT G a solid .3-.35 seconds in ET in the 1/4 mile.

I'm considering on pumping up my 17s to 45psi in an effort to generate some wheelspin and basically jump over the 2000-3500rpm bog.
If people really want to go quicker in their G 5AT, they need to be focusing on that Nissan is doing to kill the performance on launch in 1st gear. It could mean the difference between running a 14.5 stock or a 14.2 (or better) stock.

DaveB There was the same problem many years ago with the turbo 350 & 400 I wish I could remember the name of the part that caused the problem. The problem was under a hard lanch. the down shift or kick down" was over riding the pump and making way to much pressure in low gear. There was two things happening at the same time here. Is there anywhere that can modify the torque convertor for a slightly higher stall speed and greater torque multiplication?
That would solve the off idle bog.
