New Lexus LS460 has better fuel economy than new G35...
Here is spec on new Lexus LS460.
Curb Weight (lb / kg) 4,244
Engine Type 4.6-liter V8
Horsepower 380 @ 6,400 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 367 @ 4,100 RPM
Emissions Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV II)
Performance
0-60 mph (sec.) 5.4
1/4-Mile Acceleration (sec) 13.9
Gas Mileage
City: 19 mpg
Hwy: 27 mpg
This 4,200lb luxury sedan with 380hp V8 has better fuel economy than new G35 which has 19/26?! And it has nearly equal performance to 60mph.
Either Lexus' technology is way above Infiniti or Infiniti is not trying hard enough on new G35. I'm not complaining on G35, I think it is still a great buy. It's just that this proves there is lots of room for improvement if Inifiniti really tries harder.
By the way, I just saw the G35 for the first time during lunch time today. Looks very nice. Until now I was going to buy IP with Graphite, but I'm completely sold on the Stone interior. They had dozen G35s in every color and sat in all of them.

I didn't pay attention and was not aware the G35 was 26 on the highway--is that AWD or RWD? Even the 335 gets 29 mpg on the highway....

I really don't think that the highway mpg is indicative of gearing--the more gears or speeds, the more the ratios are spread apart. The highway mpg rating is imho indicative of fuel efficiency. You can't necessarily achieve that number, but it is a way in which to compare different vehicles tested under the same conditions.

The new Corvette can achieve 28mpg on the highway because it's hardly revving above idle at cruising speed (1800RPM @ 60mph), thus less fuel injected into the cylinders. And the Lexus costs double of what the G35 does, so good fuel economy can be expected.
